Commercial Description:
Resinous hop character and bitterness balance the rich caramel malt base. We took it a step further and Amarillo dry hopped the brew to 45 IBUs, creating refreshing and savory hop flavors and aromas. Is it Red IPA? That’s your call.

Shared by robert at state line. Thanks robert!!! In my opinion this was the best beer all night. Ratebeer calls it an American Pale Ale but in my opinion it is a definite IPA. Super bitter, another grassy bitter beer, which is right up my ally. Smelled great. Taste great, there is nothing I didnt like about this beer! Amber in color, medium texture. Thanks robert for the awesome beer!

Caramel brown in color, with a head that fades away quickly. For an amber ale this appearance is very nice. Huge malt aroma. The fact that this has only 45 IBUs I wasn’t expecting a very bitter beer, but with a name like "Hop Head" what was I expecting? Huge malty aroma that leans towards a barley wine-type aroma. This was not the aroma that I was expecting. Slight bittering hop that adds a weird flavor to the beer. It seems like this beer should be, or was meant to be a barley wine. The bittering hop is great, but it doesn’t compliment the malt aroma, or flavor. Very sweet malt flavor at first but then that hop hits you very hard. Decent beer, but not one of my favorites.

Pours a crystal clear ruby red with fantastic lacing. Aroma is lightly sweet & hoppy with lots of caramel. Great malty taste with crisp, sharp hopping and a very complex spicy aftertaste which lingers indefinitely. Body is creamy and thick with good carbonation. This has so much going on that it’s not really sessionable, which given the style is a bit odd, but still very tasty. A tad too dry for my taste, for a red ale.

Bierkraft growler. Deep red/copper color with a frothy off-white head. Big floral hop aroma defined by cascades--essence of orange and dark brewed tea. Clean full malts infused with a prominent hoppy bitterness--tea, mint, orange, with a smooth resin finish. Medium body. Very nice study of PNW hops in a well executed west coast ale.

12oz bottle. Pours murky red with off-white head and a ton of floaties. Aroma is hoppy with pine, citrus, and caramel malt. Flavor is bitter hops, pine, citrus, caramel, spices and good malt backbone. Full mouthfeel and finishes bitter. Nice balance between malt and hops. Really good amber ale.

Pours a nice looking beige head with a dark amber body with tons of floating sediment in it. The aroma of hops dominates the nose, along with a few citrus notes. Really good amount of hops in the taste of the beer itself (maybe a few too many for this beer though). A little sweet with a nice malty undertone. Having a few of these beers leaves your mouth kind of dry and hopped out, so it is hard to drink a bunch of these which is a problem for me who is the proud owner of a case.

Last of the keg at Pizzeria Paradiso in Dupont Circle. Dark clear brown with enormous tan head. Very malty, very thick and almost chewy. Tastes like maltomeal with hops. Slight spice. Very nice.

12oz bottle served in a stem glass. Pours lightly hazed deep garnet topped by a dense off-white head. Big Amarillo nose of grapefruit and pine. Deep bitterness balanced by sweet caramel flavors, some pine and grapefruit as well. I agree with the rep IPA statement before me. And while it is good it needs something else to keep me coming back.
