I am surprised that this is an amber and not an IPA., because the hops are front and center in this brew. Fresh, grassy hops, with grapefruit and pine flavors, mostly dry and with a touch of sweat. nbutler11 (779), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 7, 2009 On tap at the brewery. Pours a deep red color, as advertised, with a beige head. Smells a lot like an IPA, with plenty of floral hops and citrus. tastes much the same, with a nice malt profile to balance out the bitterness of the hops. Not bad at all. jstraw (777), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Dec 9, 2009 Red-amber with big, foamy beige head / Big nose of fresh cut pine and weed / Medium body, chewy with sharp, biting hops and long finish / Flavors of fresh cut pine, weed, resin, grapefruit, and burnt sugar / Perfect, but no amber ale. It’s an IPA. AlabastorJones (775), San Francisco, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 22, 2008 amber ale? really? it says red right on it... anyway, brown rouge without a head, mild amarillo nose, very similar to Ninkasi’s believer, but milder and less sweet, dry palate and hop finish, club soda carbonation, hints at citrus rind bitters, sort of that back of the palate bitter, nothing overly sweet fresh or fruity here, an interesting and worthy ale, but by no means an amber, I’ll blame ratebeer for that though and won;t hold it against the brew hapjydeuce (774), Del Mar, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 14, 2007 On tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad. J suggested. Deep amber color, transparent with a nice head display. Hop resin is finely packed into the aroma with some malt and caramel. Lighter finish compared to the big boy reds, nice and crisp. Hoppiness stains last for a good while on the tongue. A good choice. Fratto (768), Arlington, Texas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 22, 2009 Nice idea, worked out well. Nice red pour and a decent amount of hops. I need to find more Green Flash beer. curly (767), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 14, 2009 Dark amber pour with a beige head. Pine vanilla and cherry or dark fruit aroma. Smooth creamy sweet then bitter. Very balanced and excellent bold taste for an amber. mmmbeer (766), Austin, Texas, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Aug 4, 2009 12 oz. bottle served in shaker- poured a semi transparent, brown with darkened maroon color. Low carbonation, white ring around the class for a head with minimal lacing. Aroma of pine, caramel malt, and enough attitude to kick whatever you had last right THROUGH the window by the back of it’s neck and belt. Hits the mouth with a high medium body, malt has some weight which is nice, hops see that that door is open a crack and crash the fucker down, middle holds up nicely, finish has a fine acidity laced with a sweetened backbone from the malt. My only problem- I knew I should have grabbed a 6’er instead of just a single, because now I want to drink this the rest of the day!!!
