Commercial Description:
Resinous hop character and bitterness balance the rich caramel malt base. We took it a step further and Amarillo dry hopped the brew to 45 IBUs, creating refreshing and savory hop flavors and aromas. Is it Red IPA? That’s your call.

$10.48 a sixer but I still grabbed this immediately due to the brewery and the name of the beer. They do not lie, this is hoppy. It looks like your standard imperial red even though the ABV is only 6%. Nice lacing on the glass and a creamy head. The smell is like sniffing a handful of amarillo pellets. Super hoppy, green smell. The flavor is bitter amarillos which always remind me of lemons for some reason. This sorta reminds me of Boulder’s Mojo with all this amarillo going on. Still, this is a good beer if you really like hops, otherwise stay away. 07/08 - after having this on tap I have to bump the smell score, nice. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 05-30-2008 02:49:47

12oz bottle. Pours with not much carbonation. An off-white smallish head atop an opaque burnt dark red body. Nice color and good lacing despite the lack of carbonation. Aroma is floral, fruity hops with a substantial caramel background. Flavor is the same, mildly bitter with an intense maltiness. Grainy mouthfeel. This reminds me of Founder’s Red’s Rye slightly, though without the prominent rye I guess. This is pretty good but Green Flash has yet to blow me away.

Pours ruby red from 12 oz bottle, foamy head comes forth. Aroma of the typical hopped up amber, hops, some caramel, metallic tin. Flavour was of hop crystal surprise, some pine resins, malts and slight grassy tones come through. Lacing is nice, mouth feel superb. What a delightful surprise. Rather dry in the end but acceptable. Pretty good beer. Would love to try on tap.

Pours a hazy brown ruby with a foamy off-white and tan head that was long lasting and left creamy bubbled lacing on the glass, first whiff is of citrus hops and caramel, a faint woodsy aroma (from the hops?), some malt sweetness with a candy fragrance in the background, has a good hop bitterness on the palate with a taste of toasted malt and dark bread, faint malt sweetness and caramel flavors, has a medium dry finish, medium mouth feel, a fine carbonation and not to much either, I thought the hop bitterness was more prevalent than the 45 IBUs listed on the label, a good combination of hops and malt.

Woah, this is right up my alley. Just found another daily drinker. Love that it’s not that strong either. 6% is just right. An Amber with a tilt towards the hoppy side of the fence. Great beer.

12 oz bottle - fairly dark amber red color with smallish light tan head. Aroma is full of toasted caramel, along with a fair amount of black pepper spiceyness, touch of honey and oak. Flavor has fair amount of chewy malts, along with a ton of herbal hops and fair amount of medium caramel. FInish is very bitter. Overall pretty nice, definitely on the bitter side of the style though.

The color was amber/red. The head was creamy, thin, and white. The aroma was amarillo hops, sweet, and citris. The flavor was strong amarillo, sweet fruit, and citris. The palate was full-bodied. The finish was way/hoppy.
