This American-style Black IPA is nearly jet black and perceived to have high hop bitterness, flavor and aroma with medium-high alcohol content, balanced with a medium body. The appearance may trick you into thinking you are about to enjoy a traditional stout beer when in fact your senses are about to be overwhelmed with our Black IPA. Juicy, fruity, floral, and pine from Pacific Northwest hops gives the beer a classic West Coast IPA hop character. The Black IPA is further characterized by a balanced and moderate degree of caramel malt and subdued dark roasted malt flavor and aroma. 7.2% ABV, 85 Hops used: Warrior, Citra, Cascade

Bottle:   Moderate Black IPA.   Very soft roast, moreso a charred like IPA.   Campfire from start to finish.   Otherwise very pithy.   A little dry, could use a touch of sweetness.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   A bit stale on the finish.   Seems very pedestrian... but nothing really off.

Aroma: The nose is pretty much on-style, with the hops over roast from a component standpoint
Appearance: This beer pours a dark brown with a light brown head and heavy lace
Flavor: The taste has a nice hop bitterness up-front, with a more roasted malt finish
Palate: The body is light-medium, with a smooth mouthfeel, and it has a dry/roasty finish to it
Overall Impression: I thought this was a really nice example of a Black IPA. Unfortunately, I haven’t had the opportunity to try all of the Hop Odyssey beers thus far, but I have enjoyed the one’s I have tried, and I would love to try to rest.

Izskats labs, aromāts pavājš. Garša- laba, bet neizteikmīga. Šajā gadījumā- vai nu ipa vai tumšais gribētos atdalīt. IPA apiņi ir ok, bet vajadzētu tumšā alus apiņus.

[Bottle (660ml)] Pours a very dark amber-brown with a large lasting frothy beige head and some lacing on the glass. Aroma is your standard, but solid, Black IPA: Toasted malt and leafy hops along with a hint of coffee -- simple but nice. Flavour’s the same, toasted malt and leafy hops along with a semi-long moderate bitter finish. Average to medium bodied. Well done and enjoyable.

This is a pretty good black IPA. It pours dark black, it has a ton of head and lots of lace. The aroma is all floral hops. The flavor is fairly standard for a black IPA... rich malt and strong, citrus hops. The finish is smokey but bright. Not as good as Wookey Jack, Sublimely Self Righteous, or Dubhe, but still pretty good.

Bottle split at the Black (IPA) Friday tasting, thanks to Kenny M, 09/05/14. Light black with a moderate light tan covering that retains well. Nose is bitter roast, pine, tropicana, bitter grapefruit. Taste comprises pine bite, bitter grapefruit, light smoke, bitter hop presence. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close laced with hop bitterness. Decent Seedy Aye!

Pretty decent black IPA. Almost has a British pale ale estery taste to it. Perhaps British style ale yeast? ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bomber from Proof bottle shop. Blackish pour with a creamy tan head. Aroma of toasted malt, pine and fresh hops. Tastes are cocoa, toasty, tropical fruit, little minty, prunes, grapefruit tart, caramel. Oily palate. Lots going on and well balanced. Like most of the BIPA’s, more of a sipper for me - but a good one.

Dark black pour medium khaki head. Floral malty aroma. Taste is dark bitter chocolate, toasted barley and gapefruit. Very smooth. Bitterness comes at end. Overally very good black ipa.
