Draft. Funky hop nose, light crisp body, lingering bitter, very dark color. This beer surprised me. I really enjoyed it.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at Busy Bee (Raleigh).
Looks like a porter. Not a porter. Hoppy/IPA/citrus aroma. Citrus taste with a touch of bitterness. Very strong on the tongue, and pretty darn good.

Draft @ Coalhouse Pizza. Delicious Black IPA. Opaque dark brown with a tan head that laces well. Well balanced hop/malt mix with a nice smokiness. Soft mouthfeel and nice alcohol bite.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at Mr. Goodbar. Black with a little head and lace. Lots of hop aroma. Very little roast, itís in the background. Cascadian and citra and warrior hops make it interesting and good drinkability. Above average mouthfeel.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
In short: A nutty and very hoppy big brown ale. Very good.
How: Tap at Reservoir, Waterbury VT.
The look: Clear very dark brown (near black) body topped by a small beige head.
In long: Nose is moderately hoppy (citrusy) over a toasted nuttiness. Taste is more intense than the nose hinted on. A nutty fudge cake, a rather corpulent body, lots of almonds, nice caramel, tree bark, an enormous citrusy hops presence, a bitterness of medium-high intensity. More like one of those so-called Double-Brown IPA than a typical Black IPA, and I like well-made hoppy nutty brown ale. Abundant carbonation. Easy to drink even if a rather powerful tasty beer. I see high and low ratings for this beer, that proves there are really two types of people in this world, people who are wasting time on ratebeer entering ratings that nobody care about, and people who donít use ratebeer.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Had on tap in a pint glass.
Arrived with no head and a nearly opaque very dark brown.
Definite citrus aroma along with lots of roasted malt and cocoa. A very nice malt/hop balance and the roastiness was quite nice.
The flavor continued the great balance between malt and hop with toast, caramel, and coffee along with a hefty punch of citrus from the hops. A moderate bitterness lingered through a sticky finish.
Overall, a really good black IPA. There are so many different variations on this style but Green Flash has really nailed it with this one.

On tap at Fate poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lasting creamy tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, charcoal, earthiness, grapefruit and pine. Palate was light to medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of roasted malt, earthiness, grapefruit and light pine with a smooth dry citter lingering roasty citrus finish.

Clear dark dark brown with a lovely aroma of herbal and grassy hops with dark sweet burnt caramel and roasty black malts. Flavor has some nice bitterness up front with some acidic pine and grapefruit, followed by some toastiness and roasted black malt. Sweet overall with a nice balancing resinous bitterness. Delightful.
