COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This American-style Black IPA is nearly jet black and perceived to have high hop bitterness, flavor and aroma with medium-high alcohol content, balanced with a medium body. The appearance may trick you into thinking you are about to enjoy a traditional stout beer when in fact your senses are about to be overwhelmed with our Black IPA. Juicy, fruity, floral, and pine from Pacific Northwest hops gives the beer a classic West Coast IPA hop character. The Black IPA is further characterized by a balanced and moderate degree of caramel malt and subdued dark roasted malt flavor and aroma. 7.2% ABV, 85 Hops used: Warrior, Citra, Cascade

Bomber from Bine & Vine. Pours very dark brown with ruddy glints and a slight tan head. Aroma is citrus, smooth dark malt, and maybe some floral. Med body. Flavor is fruit, pine, earth, slightly chocolate malt, smooth burnt malt. And could be some citrus. The surviving non-malt flavor seems pine. Fair amount of hop. Could be a light hop burn. Pretty flavorful.

Black pour with a khaki head. The nose is roasty and dry, slightly acidic even. Floral hops, big grapefruit, and an interesting herbal quality. Plenty of pine, too. The flavor is quite bitter, dry, and roasty. Lots of pine, some grapefruit peel, and floral hops. Strong herbal note on the finish.

Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Kenny. Pours clear brown with a frothy, tan head. Nice aroma, some burnt pine, lots of juicy citrus, orange and grapefruit. Light to medium sweet flavor with dry, burnt wood, toasted pine, nice chocolate, roast, orange rind, melon. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Lightly resinous to finish with mellow warmth, more toasted pine, wood, earth. Solid.

Draft. Poured clear black color with an average frothy tan head that lasted and produced excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy complex toasted earthy hop aroma. Medium to abundant body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid beer.

Bottle at a pre CBC-tasting in Johns rented apartment in Copenhagen. Very dark amber/brown beer with a nice lasting beige head. Hoppy chocolate aroma, cocoa, licorice, grassy, citrus, earthy notes. Hoppy chocolate flavor, earthy, cocoa, citrus, floral, some leather. Decent but I was hoping for more.

Draft. Very dark maroon color, tan edge head. Aroma of licorice and burnt espresso coffee pot and pine. Taste is exceedingly bitter and astringent mrlted tar. Reminds me of Mikkeller Black, and not in a good way.

On tap at Fate poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lasting creamy tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, charcoal, earthiness, grapefruit and pine. Palate was light to medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of roasted malt, earthiness, grapefruit and light pine with a smooth dry citter lingering roasty citrus finish.

Bottle @ home, picked up @ Argonaut in Denver last week. Pours a black appearance with a soft, creamy, brown head. Really piney and resiny hoppy nose. Definitely some tropical fruit and grapefruit mixed in there as well with the roast and burnt malts. Kind of creamy mouth feel. Flavor is full of pineapple, grapefruit, and juicy tropical fruits which is a bit odd when in combination with the burnt, roasty, chocolate malts. Moderate sweetness. Moderate to high bitterness. Twangy finish. Pretty fucken strange brew though not completely unenjoyable.
