This hoppy pale ale starts out as 30th Street Pale Ale and then undergoes Spanish cedar aging. Wood aging imparts an intense cedar aroma which dominates the dry hop. The flavor contributions from the Spanish cedar include peppercorn spiciness and a tannic dry mouth feel that makes the hop flavor and bitterness linger in the finish. The wood adds a fun and unique twist on a classic American Strong Pale Ale, “The wood is good!” Hops used: Warrior, El Dorado, Cascade

on tap @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Clear dark orange amber with a bubbly head and heavy lacing. Taste is strong malt at the onset, with strong citrus hops pushing in during the palate. There is an undercurrent that reminds me of cedar chests. All moves with ease to a lingering bitter finish that cleans the palate. Great food beer.

On tap at Rock and Run 3-30-14. Slightly hazy amber with a bone white head that settles to a ring and leaves excellent lacing. Slight vanilla in aroma with citrus, some light fruit and wood. Taste is citrus with biscuit malt and a hint of vanilla. Good amount of citrus rind bitterness along with some wood and black pepper spiciness. Finishes very dry with the pepper spiciness and a bitter that builds. Mouthfeel is light/medium but creamy with medium/high carbonation. Well integrated flavors that add some uniqueness to the style. Would have again.

Taster on tap at Party Town. Orange color. Thin off-white head. Leaves good, thicker lace. Awersome, big grapefruit, cedar, cigar box aroma. Light caramel malt. Medium to bigger body. Good, smooth, lighter carbonation. Lightly dry in the finish. Moderate sweet taste, moderate bitter. Very tasty, complex, refreshing stuff.

Tap pours unclear golden orange with some whiteish fizz. It smells lightly of citrus hops and some spice grind grains and cedar. The flavor is very interesting, the hops are over the cedar but it is definitely noticeable and somewhat pleasant. The spice and earthy nature of the cedar blends well with the hops and the grain adds just barely enough to bracket it together. There is a musty fruity element that pops in when cold that brightens the beer and the dry floral and citrus bitter elements linger for quite some time. Caught a strange hint of bubblegum at one point. Really better than I had thought.

On tap at SF Beer Week Opening Gala. Pour is clear amber with a small white head that disappears quickly. Aroma and flavor are both of wood, spice, and more wood. Some light fruits on the finish.

On tap, tasted from several different kegs. The first sip I was a but confused and not sure if I would like this, but I’ve taken a liking to it. The cedar adds a layer of complexity that is not overtly cedar as in cedar closet cedar, but different. The base IPA is quite good, but the cedar flavor layer on top is quite interesting. I wouldn’t want more than 1 pint at a time, but for a different hoppy beer, this is quite good.

Pour on tap at Tap and Handle, dark orange pour with white head, aroma brought notes of big cedar, oak, nice earth and spice notes go into a bit of orange, grapefruit, pine, and grass, slight floral notes as well. Taste is a mix of huge cedar, cigar box type notes into some spice, earth, hints of lemon, orange, into pine, grass, caramel, toffee, finishing fairly bitter, dry. End kind of craps out, but its tasty.
