COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This hoppy pale ale starts out as 30th Street Pale Ale and then undergoes Spanish cedar aging. Wood aging imparts an intense cedar aroma which dominates the dry hop. The flavor contributions from the Spanish cedar include peppercorn spiciness and a tannic dry mouth feel that makes the hop flavor and bitterness linger in the finish. The wood adds a fun and unique twist on a classic American Strong Pale Ale, “The wood is good!” Hops used: Warrior, El Dorado, Cascade

Draft at the Porter Beer Bar in Atlanta. Pint glass. Pours a deep orange-amber with a pillow head. Good lacing. Strong aroma of cedar, citrus, pine and biscuit. The taste was not quite as strong cedar as the aroma. Pine and citrus hops came through. Nice spicy and floral finish. Slightly bitter. Good, but not as good as Humidor from Cigar City.

Type: 22-oz. bottle Glass: Pint mug From: Trader Joe’s in La Mesa (San Diego), Calif. Price: $4.99 Purchased: Dec. 19, 2014 Consumed: Dec. 21, 2014 Misc.: Best by April 2, 2015 Poured an orange, honey, clear color with 3-to-4 fingers of off-white, rocky head. Small amount of bubble streams coming up from the bottom of the glass. Some spotting lacing on the sides of the glass. Great retention all the way down. (Sight - 4.25) Very nice nose. Got lots of hops - Citra, floral, Amarillo, Mosaic, Cascade and tropical. Also orange blossom, nectarine, Citra zest, caramel, light lemon grass and some peach. (Smell - 4.25) Tasted woody notes up front, followed by a bitter woody finish. Also Citra hops, floral hops, nickel, orange blossom, nectarine, orange rind, Amarillo hops, caramel, mango, peach and Citra zest. Wet Cascade hops late. (Taste - 3.88) Medium-to-light body. Oily texture. Average-to-lively carbonation. Bitter, abrupt finish. (Feel - 3.63) This beer started out great with the nose and sight, and even the taste in the beginning, but didn’t hold strong the whole way. In fact, I dropped the taste and feel ratings as it went down. Still a good APA though. (Overall - 3.88) 3.95 87 B+

Hops, wood, caramel in the nose. Crystal clear copper with white head. Cedar compliments hops "pine" very nice. Balanced and drinkable. Nice brew.

Brilliant new penny copper with a frothy, beige head that leaves lots of thick lacing. The aroma has some nice mellow tropical fruit, a bit of spice, some toasty and caramel malts, and a subtle resiny character. The flavor goes from sweet and malty to sharp, dry, and somewhat bitter. The cedar is very mellow in terms of flavor contribution, but I think any more would overdo it on the mouthfeel/finish. The finish lingers for quite a while with reisiny woodiness.

651 ml. bottle. 6.0% ABV per the label. Pours a medium thick, well retained, ivory head, with some lacing, over a clear amber (SRM 10) body....nose is pine, resin, grapefruit peel, cedar, tangerine, orange, light cereal, slight hints of toffee/caramel, balance to the hops.....taste is slightly sweet with floral notes to start, pine, resin, citrus, tropical fruits, light cereal notes, hints of cedar, becoming dry, finishing with a moderate bitterness, balance to the hops....mouth feel, light of medium body, minimal alcohol, moderate carbonation, with slight creaminess. This is a lovely, complex APA, with appropriate hop dominance, almost balanced back by the malts, and the slight intrigue of the wood. BJCP 8/3/15/5/7

Clean light copper pour, decent off white head. Nose is muted wood. Bitter. Middle is medium malt backbone, touch of soft leather. Finish is solid, lasting bitterness (more than the preceding performance would have suggested). Very balanced beer.

[6097-20131214] Tap. Fresh woody peat and pine needles aroma. Clear, orange body with a medium-lasting foamy white head. Bitter orange peel zest flavour. Medium body. Great bitter bite. (7/4/8/4/14) 3.7

On tap @ Collins Pub. Pours hazy dark gilden with thin white head. Aroma is slightly sweet, oaky pale malt. Taste is likewise; clean medium pale malt, dry and oaky mid-palate, bitter fresh floral hops on the finish. Cedar, woody flavor throughout. Not one I’d seek out, honestly, but nice clean taste nonetheless.

Bottle sample shared with oakbluff. Dark gold in colour with medium carbonation. Aromas are of pithy red grapefruit, cedar, and clean pale malt. A balanced attack in the mouth with burnt orange peel, grapefruit wet wood, and pale malts. Medium bodied with a solid amount of bitterness. An above average APA, with a nice contribution from the cedar.
