Bigger, bolder, and hoppier is what you get in Green Flash’s Imperial Red Rye IPA...how unusual! This is quite possibly the most amount of flavor that can be packed into a glass of red ale. Columbus hops set the stage for the newly available Mosaic hops (released in 2013) to shine through the rich crystal malt base and a touch of rye malt adds a spicy dryness to accentuate the hop character further

Pours a deep red brown on tap with creamy tan head and good lacing. Aroma of strong virus and floral hops with a hint of rye spice. Taste follows, nice bittersweet finish, almost no hint of the booze. Caramel and citrus are huge on the back end, really nice for being so big.

In short: A richly malted (lots of caramel and rye) and generously hopped (piney and citrusy) big red ale. Good beer.
How: Tap at Farmhouse Tap & Grill, Burlington VT.
The look: Clear dark red body topped by a persistent small beige head leaving lots of lacings on the glass.
In long: Nose has some fresh rye and a good hop presence that is piney citrusy herbal. In mouth the beer offers a nourishing body and a good carbonation, pleasant mouthfeel. Taste doesn’t let down. Plenty of crusty rye bread, succulent caramel, berries jam, toasted residual sugars, plenty of sandy piney and citrusy hops. Medium sweetness sensation and a bitterness of medium intensity. Nothing surprising here, it delivers pretty much what I was expecting from a respected brewery making Double IPA called Imperial Red Rye. Another good hoppy beer from California, one of the 49 states not known for its famous chainsaw massacre.

On tap at the Brass Tap, poured a light amber red color with aromas of tropical fruits, some pine and a touch of berries. Flavors follow suit, a nice beer overall.

On tap at Barley’s, a vibrant ruby red body supports a fading off-white head revealing webbed lacing all around, this one is loaded with tropical fruit and medium pine balanced by big red berry and jam characteristics, taking the intensity right up to the horizon of overdone, but holding on to maintain a bright, bold, pleasing experience

On tap at Skallywags in August (I’m way behind on entering ratings). Pours ruby red maroon color. Tan head with green tint. Pine and citrus nose. Caramel malt, bitter finish. Reminds me a lot of Founders Red’s Rye. Very decent.

On tap at World of Beer, UCF, pours a deep red with a nice head. Nose is all tropical citrus, deep and pleasant. Taste is citrusy, with deep resin and pine...and a good amount of bitterness. The finish is bitter sweet, with a long bitter ending.

Drank it from a mason jar. Very little head upon receiving it, so I can't comment on that. Aesthetically, it's a dreamy dark red with less than average carbonation, but it's certainly not flat. Just by the color, you can tell it's a malty beer, and the smell gives off that vibe. The nose is complimented by spicy notes alongside the grapefruit and pine. A really pleasant aroma. Flavor is a mix between an Imperial IPA and an American Strong Ale. I catch the rye with every sip, but the malt gives balances the hops nicely. It's bitter, spicy, fruity, and dry on the finish. Thankfully the ABV is right where it needs to be to compliment all the flavors and make the experience memorable. Outstanding beer... Another excellent offering from Green Flash and my new favorite Rye Pale Ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Cole’s in Buffalo. Hoppy aroma. A good balance of grapefruit hops and a good maltiness. Very drinkable. Lacy. Some red coloured body.

On tap. Pours a hazed amber-orange with thinner khaki head that leaves a thick wall of intricate lace behind. Nose involves lots of spicy and herbal hops, some caramel and toffee, orange citrus, some rustic rye and dusty yeast. Somewhat sweet, nicely bitter. Full bodied, oily, creamy, softer action, with a spicy rye finish. Really nice brew, big but not overly so, with lots of fun hop and rye elements and a good malt backbone.
