COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"San Diego-style IPA, as it has come to be known by many, is a super-hoppy, high gravity, yet highly quaffable ale. Green Flash Imperial IPA is created in this new tradition, with intense hop flavors and aromas from a unique blend of Summit and Nugget hops. It’s all about the hops!" -- Brewmaster Chuck Silva

Bottle. You can’t brew in San Diego county if you don’t know how to brew one of these bad boys. What else would you expect from a San Diego-style IPA.

Crystal clear golden appearance with large soady display of head. Vewry limited in carbonation bubbles rising to the top but when they do they are a large size. Aroma is a full array of fruit and pine tree. Flavor is strong with a nice touch of grapefryit and fresh green hops. Alos has a real bitter aftertaste that is sure to only be enjoyed by the most faint of heart.

Pours honey colored w/ a full, semi creamy froth that recedes slowly to Hawiian islands and contiguous brewers lace. Aroma of sweet malt and sugared grapefruit pulp. Full nectar w/ soft residual effers creating a silky texture. This brew is on the sweet side w/ decadent flavors of malted caramel and ruby red grapefruit. Not very complex and the hops are kind of subdued by the heavy malt componant. It’s a maltbomb for sure. Alcohol is well hidden.

22oz. bottle. Pale yellow-orange with a large rocky white head. Earthy, grassy hop character underneath higher notes of candied pineapple and grapefruit. Oily citric hop flavor up front, quickly becomes a grapefruit skin and wet lawn resinous bitterness. Lasting bitterness and some astringency in the finish with a freshly crushed hop pellet coarseness.

Bottle. Pours an attractive deep clear golden with a thick off-white head. Intense aroma of grapefruit, pine, tropical fruits, mango and vanilla. The flavor starts off with sweet pale malt, light caramel and then a blast of juicy grapefruit, pine, mango, peach and a touch of vanilla. Bitter resinous hoppiness lingers on the tongue - very nice. A minor alcohol zing is detected in the finish but it doesn’t detract. Medium bodied yet creamy with moderate carbonation. Good lacing and head retention. Very good stuff.

From bomber. Pours a clear, light orange with off white head. Large resiny, piney nose. Nice malt profile balanced the same hop flavor. Nicely bitter throughout. Palate a little thin, but very drinkable. Good.

UPDATED: APR 9, 2008 It was an IPA. I drank it, it tasted good. It made my belly say hip hop horray! Definitely taste the nugget bittering hops, but it was a balanced beer. It might have not been the freshest bottle due to the amount of balance, but it was a good DIPA. 7/3/8/4/16 ---re-rate--- Aro is kind of thin, dank skunk. Taste is rind and skunk, orange hops, fizzy carbonation, bad bottle. 7/3/7/3/13

02.01.07 Bomber. My first rating of 2007. I’m not sure this one’s living up to the hype, although it seems decent enough. Golden orange color with tall and lasting off-white head that sheets in sticky lace. Aroma is stinky with catty grapefruit and some underlying shortbread. Not really my cup of tea, but I’m digging this more than usual. Palate is outstanding -- it’s creamy, full, soft, and with tight, fine eff. Really nicely done in that regard, and matches nicely with the pithy astringency to finish. Flavor is not up to snuff and the beer relies too heavily on its hop profile, which, frankly, isn’t all that great. Alcohol never comes through but very late and along with the other lingering flavors of mild resin, celery, rotty detritus, and more grapefruit pith. I can see this one being popular among those in love with these hops -- I am not among them.

22 oz. bottle from Plaza Liquor - Pours a very clear orangish-amber color with a two finger thick off white head. Nice lacing. Has a floral and sweet orange aroma. Has a very nice citrus hop flavor. Not much malt comes through. Has a slight initial astringent aftertaste. Medium body. Very nice beer.
