kassner (429), Wexford, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 19, 2009 Also on Tap at Mad Mex in Oakland. Really nice but not better than the Breckenridge. No head only modest lacing, a little more fragrant, more earthy and not as good a finish. HonkeyBra (1270), Lemont, Illinois, USA Mar 18, 2009 Crushed with JakeBra and Carythedude. Yellow pour with big white head. Nose is big hops. Flavor doesn’t really live up to the aroma. Kind of disappointed, but oh well. Still nice to crush. Skeegle (476), Maryland, USA Mar 11, 2009 Hm. I keep getting notes of brown paper bag, actual ink, and candy milk malts, like malt balls. The aroma is a gorgeous mix of floral Alpha King hops and that familiar West Coast IPA, and couldn’t possibly be any better. But still, the milky ink candy taste... I’m rating this one ice cold, perhaps it needs to warm up another 10degrees. Rerate in 20 minutes ;)
RERATE:
Mmmm. Much better. I’m getting more of a mildly sweeter, much much hoppier West Coast now that it is about 45degrees. If this were sold in 6packs I’d be sold. I hate how all brewers just sell their higher ABV/imperial beers in unaffordable bombers. Nate (2533), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 7, 2009 On tap at Mad Mex, Robinson. Floral and fresh grassy hops aroma but it’s fairly muted. Overall a bit weak in the nose. Smooth sweet malt character and light caramel. Medium golden amber clear with thin head. Medium heavy watery body with medium to light carbonation. Starts pretty sweet with caramel and brown sugar. Hops are herbal and grassy but not overly bitter. This is a pretty sweet IPA with light alcohol warming. Light Band-Aid. Finish is sweet with light chalky bitterness. Palidor19 (1750), Brandon, Florida, USA Mar 5, 2009 great amount of hop flavor with all the right points to make this a great DIPA. the malts are pretty good but well enough on its own, the hops are flavorful through the entire beer, with deep piny flavor. works well nick76 (2636), Tampa, Florida, USA Mar 5, 2009 The aroma is very citrusy and piny with caramel malt and bread. The appearance is golden amber with a large head for the style. The flavor is like the aroma, simple but good. The palate is smooth. Overall it’s very good. nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Mar 3, 2009 650 ml. Orange-copper with a lasting quarter inch of cream. Aromas of orange, pineapple, tea leaf, resin and vanilla. Medium body is super smooth and creamy, and of course hop-tingly and dry. Tastes of pineapple, peppery resin, grapefruit, earthy leaf, oak and orange-caramel. This beer is great cause it has the malty gumption to stand toe-to-toe with the great flavor blend of the 101 IBU hops. Paints the glass with a creamy lace. Hoptagon (132), Arlington, Virginia, USA Feb 28, 2009 22oz. Bottle. Hazy orange color with a thin dissipating head. Nose is full of hops, with lots of crushed pine and a hint of grapefruit. Flavor is heavily hopped with strong citrus and an impressive tongue buckling bitterness. The bite is well balanced with caramel and toasted malts. Body is medium to thin which allows the hops to stand out. Finish is lingering, dry and bitter. Akin to taking a hop sledgehammer to the dome.
