| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 28, 2009 Updated: Apr 30, 2009Enjoyed via draft in a tulip glass. Pours a light copper to perhaps a medium gold. Nose of wonderful American hops. One definitely gets notes of Columbus in particular, although these aren’t mentioned on the bottle. Hops up front on the palate, middle of the palate, and end of the palate. A nice malt complexity adds just enough balance paired with a dry finish makes this dangerously drinkable. hophead21112 (117), Louisville (LEWISville), Colorado, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 20, 2009 Golden/yellow pour with a decent one finger head. Good retention. Average lacing. Caramel malty sweetness on the nose and pine/citrus hops. Flavor starts off with the malt and finishes with the hops. Good balance. A little off-flavor that I can’t really put my finger on. Not too distracting, however. I would say that it lacks the overly hoppy & malty characteristics of the DIPA, unfortunately. A nice, quaffable beer but I definitely expected more from this brewery. kassner (440), Wexford, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 19, 2009 Also on Tap at Mad Mex in Oakland. Really nice but not better than the Breckenridge. No head only modest lacing, a little more fragrant, more earthy and not as good a finish. HonkeyBra (1320), Lemont, Illinois, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 18, 2009 Crushed with JakeBra and Carythedude. Yellow pour with big white head. Nose is big hops. Flavor doesn’t really live up to the aroma. Kind of disappointed, but oh well. Still nice to crush. Skeegle (485), Maryland, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 11, 2009 Hm. I keep getting notes of brown paper bag, actual ink, and candy milk malts, like malt balls. The aroma is a gorgeous mix of floral Alpha King hops and that familiar West Coast IPA, and couldn’t possibly be any better. But still, the milky ink candy taste... I’m rating this one ice cold, perhaps it needs to warm up another 10degrees. Rerate in 20 minutes ;)
RERATE:
Mmmm. Much better. I’m getting more of a mildly sweeter, much much hoppier West Coast now that it is about 45degrees. If this were sold in 6packs I’d be sold. I hate how all brewers just sell their higher ABV/imperial beers in unaffordable bombers. Nate (2538), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 7, 2009 On tap at Mad Mex, Robinson. Floral and fresh grassy hops aroma but it’s fairly muted. Overall a bit weak in the nose. Smooth sweet malt character and light caramel. Medium golden amber clear with thin head. Medium heavy watery body with medium to light carbonation. Starts pretty sweet with caramel and brown sugar. Hops are herbal and grassy but not overly bitter. This is a pretty sweet IPA with light alcohol warming. Light Band-Aid. Finish is sweet with light chalky bitterness.
