CapnCascade (116), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Feb 23, 2009 Pours hazy orange-amber, moderate white head with good retention. Super spicy aroma reminiscent of Bolognese sauce and barbecue, and a spicy-leafy hop flavour that hangs on for a long, peppery, bitter finish. Mouthfeel is suitably rich and bespeaks high gravity. Subtle as an anvil but very enjoyable. pnista (1008), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Feb 19, 2009 Pours a bright clear golven orange with a healthy creamy white head. (This is what an IIPA should look like!) Bright hoppy nose. Floral to grapefruit with some vague citrus. Overpowered malt, is a little more grainy than malty something lightly fruity seeming to come from the malt. Smells a little like half of the beers from FFF... The mouth is a bit slippery and creamy. Definitely some substance and some slightly higher than average carbonation. Sweet malt pops out much more in the flavor. The hops come across more bitter and slightly piney in the nose, though the predominant hop notes are grapefruit. Light fruity astringency. A little bit creamy, but it’s rained in by the hop bite and alcohol, though neither is too much. Aggressive lingering bitter finish, a little aspirin. A fine IIPA, I should have opened it when I got it a month and a half ago, but oh well! handsomejn (26), Arkansas, USA Feb 17, 2009 complex flavor, grapefruit with a nice caramel sweetness as a balance. Foggy orange color with a nice white head that leaves a beautiful pattern. Rich and delicious. Nebulor (109), , California, USA Feb 16, 2009 Pine needle and grapefruit aroma with a sourness note and caramel malt in the background.
Clear apple juice color with a minimal bone white head and some action.
Lots of bitter sharp pine and grapefruit flavor with English Tea and a pale malt taste.
Medium bodied, resinous, crisp and soft carbonation with an astringent finish.
A hophead delight not for the weak or those who don’t like bitter hops. yesyouam (587), Fairport, New York, USA Feb 10, 2009 Green Flash Imperial India Pale Ale is a very clear, quite sparkling, lighter amber ale. The head is frothy, fluffy and yellowish off-white with excellent retention and lacing. The aroma is of grass, hay and lemon. It is medium-full bodied, very smooth and frothy with a clean, delicate finish. It is not over-the-top or overwhelming. It is very well balanced. It is bready and grassy with a note of hay. There isn’t really any sweetness or juiciness. It’s savory. A well done Imperial IPA. ryanknock (150), San Francisco, California, USA Feb 9, 2009 Grassy, Grapefruit and slight toast and earth in the nose. Light body, light orange to deep gold color. Flavors similar to nose, but more toast, orange and slight estery, apple characters. Dry, but a much too bitter finish. BrotherGrendel (551), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Feb 9, 2009 a- pours a dark orange hue with three fingers of creamy white head, excellent lacing throughout
s- nose is of fragrant citrus and piney hops, well balanced malt profile underneath, but this is definitely dominated by the hops (Summit & Nugget)
t- Delicious bitter hops that are not overwhelming, piney resin throughout is balanced by the more subtle malts, aftertaste is slightly bitter with a brief alcohol kick that is short-lasting
m- Medium-bodied and oily mouthfeel, adequate carbonation
d- Wow, this is one delicious and well-balanced DIPA that truly masks the abv, I could have several of these in a sitting without getting bored CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA Feb 7, 2009 Crushed with Jakebra. Pretty nice DIPA. A little thin-bodied. Flavor and nose are both pretty excellent though. Good balance of hops and malt. Nice grapefruit, pine nose. Flavor is decently bitter. Not incredible, but better than average.
