MadIndian (987), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 21, 2009 Bottle, nice hoppy aroma hints of pine. Bitter pine finish, leaving a grassy feel. Good. MrRoss (614), Delta, British Columbia, Canada Sep 17, 2009 From Firefly. A so-so appearance of light and hazy gold was the only less than endearing thing here. Oh yeah, I don’t want to pay $8.30 for very many beers. Aroma was well hopped as was the flavour. Sweet at the finish with a VERY solid mouth. Pleasing and satisfying. wavers1 (111), novato, California, USA Sep 14, 2009 Updated: Sep 15, 2009nice offering. pours a crisp gold with hues of orange. smell is of lots of nice resinous hops. very nicer smell. taste is overtly bitter. in front with a nice sweet finish. nice and hoppy, oily, sesiion iipa. edit: 666th rating for this beer! Savvy1982 (303), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada Sep 14, 2009 Bottle, shared with Cole and Macadem. Pours hazy orange, with a thick and persistent off-white head. Decent lacing. Nose is big pine, fresh cut firewood pine, with mild floral notes, mandarin oranges, firm malt. Palate isn’t as assertive, biscuit malt, resiny hops, tea, some spice, big bitter finish. Very nice! Macadem (100), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada Sep 14, 2009 This is a great IIPA, smells very fruity, grass, hay, hops, dandelion, very pretty nose, and even better taste. Its really earthy, wet hay, fresh wheat, a sweetish bitterness, really nice. GlenVargas (120), El Paso, Texas, USA Sep 13, 2009 I got totally blindsided by the Green Flash Imperial IPA (on tap at Hamilton’s in San Diego). I’d never heard of Green Flash Brewing until that night, but it certainly has the IIPA figured out. I’m not really into the hops craze, but this is a surprisingly well-balanced variation (i.e. doesn’t taste like dishsoap) maintaining a healthy 9% ABV. Green Flash might be threatening to dethrone the Maharaja as my default IIPA. fata2683 (837), Panama City, Florida, USA Sep 12, 2009 bottle, pours light hazy orange , some piney and hoppy nose. Sweet malt and all hop bitter finish. Nice.; obxdude10 (1546), Pottstown, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 8, 2009 This impy IPA is a very unique one. It pours a dark golden color with a big, soft and fluffy white head. The leaves a tremoundous amount of lacing around the glass. The nose features a full compliment of hops, lots of pine, tons of grapefruit and some hints of grass and hay. The body is smooth and drinkable. The unique aspect of this beer is the taste. The flavors do feature the usual hoppiness, but it’s a different type of hoppy taste. I’m guessing that Green Flash is using a different combination of hops. There seemed to be more of a dry, grapefruit, citrus and pine flavor than most impy IPAs. Like I said, the hoppiness is definitely still there, but the accompanying flavors are quite different. And in my opinion, they’re just not as good. The grapefruit and citrus sort of overwelm the actual hoppiness and cover up some of the malty backbone. The finish is much of the same, with sticky hops and grapefruit and pine that really sting your palate. It’s a good impy IPA, but falls a bit short of others.
