Commercial Description:
"San Diego-style IPA, as it has come to be known by many, is a super-hoppy, high gravity, yet highly quaffable ale. Green Flash Imperial IPA is created in this new tradition, with intense hop flavors and aromas from a unique blend of Summit and Nugget hops. It’s all about the hops!" -- Brewmaster Chuck Silva

Love to be the 400th reviewer of this beauty...I’m way overdue to mention it’s delightful hoppy gusto. Green Flash makes some delightful brews and this is no exception. This big daddy IPA has lots of spritzy hop pizzazz that few match...similar to a Moylan’s Hopsicle and that’s a compliment. Truly a beauty amongst the many west coast double IPAs in overall malt-hop balance and a truly delightful flavor.

Nose of orange and pine. Clear gold, huge white head, great lace. Taste of sweet caramel malts, orange and pine resin, reminds me of a Stone IPA but a little more intensely hopped and a little more alcohol.

This golden ale poured with a thin off-white head and a floral aroma. This is a Southern California hopped up pale ale with a grapefruit taste and a sharp bitter finish. If you are a hophead, this is a great beer. Otherwise, this is a pretty good beer.

Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 04-01-2008 So I stupidly ordered this today at the Falling Rock after disliking three bottles! I’d drink one, get disgusted, and a couple months later I’d think "nah, must have been a bad bottle" and I buy another which provides the same results. I’m so smart I thought well, I’ll try it on tap! It looked great so I can’t knock that. The aroma started hoppy and ok but then devolved into black pepper, fuck. The taste was more pepper, garlic, messed up. I cannot understand this beer. It does not make sense to me and I like hoppy beers. It is completely incongruous. Why can’t they just make a double West Coast IPA?

Orange-brown color with a small white head. Aroma full of pine and spruce accompanied by apricot and citrus notes. Sharp bracing bitterness, full of pine needles and grapefruit zest. A light malty backbone is present, but the hops definitely take center stage. Orange peel and juniper berries linger after the spicy/bitter hop finish.

Brewed in San Diego, California. Uses a blend of Summit and Nugget hops. Specs: 101 IBU and 9% Alc. by vol. Finely crafted ale with a beautiful pale amber color. Builds a rich vanilla colored head with intricate brussels lace and fashions good clarity. Splendid aroma! Starts with sweet peachy accents followed by undeniable bitter hop fragrance. This beer also has a taste to suit. It begins with an initial rush of malty sweetness and caps off with a dry bitter finish. This is a extremly hoppy and high octane beer with great bitter accents, but I pick up a very faint skunky flavor. Has a full mouthfeel and exuberates a fair amount of cloying. Overall, has a great balance of malt and hops and is a damn good beer. Try this with sharp cheeses or bold hearty foods.

Very light yellow colour for an IPA, especially for an Imperial. Lasting white head that’s firm and leaving lace. Aroma is obviously filled with hops, some herbal pine, lots of citrus with some dish washing soap, and some exotic fruit, mostly peach and pineapple. There is a little alcohol in the flavour, and a little fruity sweetness, but it’s all about the bitterness! Delicious, insane bitterness that burns your throat a little and a strong hop flavour with fresh tobacco, pine and grapefruit notes. Some American brewers seem to prefer big IPAs with a lot of maltiness and sweetness, but this one is perfectly balanced to my taste. Not chalky dry, but dry enugh to let the hops play lead all the way.

Golden amber color with a thin white head. Soapy hop nose, more like a pale ale than a double IPA. Flavor is very hoppy, citrusy hops and a tangy dryness. Not bad but not overly remarkable.
