Commercial Description:
"San Diego-style IPA, as it has come to be known by many, is a super-hoppy, high gravity, yet highly quaffable ale. Green Flash Imperial IPA is created in this new tradition, with intense hop flavors and aromas from a unique blend of Summit and Nugget hops. It’s all about the hops!" -- Brewmaster Chuck Silva

Bottle. appearance is okay, cloudy orange gold color with a small head. Aroma is straight hops up front, citrus hops, grassy hops, alcohol aroma with some fruit as well. Flavor is very complex and changes throughout glass. Alcohol, citrus, some spice, grapes and grapefruit, white rice, maybe even cotton candy, touch of pine. Also manages to have some decent malt profile. As close to barleywine as another style has come for me. Why this beer should be punished for not having the largest body around, I don’t know... that’s why I bump it up to reflect the 4.6 it deserves even though the body was a bit thin.

22 oz bottle. Poured a clear light orange color. Head was white with decent retention and lacing. Attractive aroma of malty caramel, alcohol, resiny hops, and honey touched cereal grain. Slightly sweet on the tongue with moderate hop bitterness of about 5 out of 10 that lingers. Tasted of peach, caramel, and grapefruity hops. Delicious.

whoa- An initial piney scent turns into a straight cannabis aroma. No complaints. Then, the beer explodes with a resiny flavor that I quite enjoyed. A very good example of the style.

The beer dispenses from the 22-ounce bottle a somewhat hazy golden orange to amber with a majestic creamy white head that lingers long before vanishing, lace forms a solid sheet upon the glass. Nose has a sweet malt aroma, pushed by the hop floral aroma, lime like in its crispness, delightful sniff. Start has a decent malt presence, hops provide a huge spicy bite, top is moderate in feel. Finish has a strong acidity, the hops potent in their spiciness, sweet, bitter aftertaste welds itself to your palate, excellent beer, and a delight for hop heads.

22oz Bottle from the bay area; thank you Karen T!

Pours a fairly light gold with an offwhite head, presenting an aroma that is really heavy on the citrus and pith and not much else in there. The flavor, while one dimensional, is very nice - not too sweet, a mouth-puckering bitter citrus with almost a hint of sour, mild sweet malts flirting around the hops but none of the overdone burnt caramel that so often mars the style, leaving a deliciously drinkable beer that goes down a lot easier than its 9% might make one think. Slight flavor of alcohol, relatively smooth mouthfeel, serious hop showcase, all-around about as nice as IIPA gets.

A curious note: both nights after drinking this one, I had a strange caffeine-like buzz that kept me from sleeping in the middle of the night. Something in the hops? Or just coincidence?

I like when they put the IBUs on the bottle, but try not to look until after tasting. This deep amber beer with its big frothy white head had some kick-ass hops going for it in the aroma and taste. The intense hoppiness gave a burn in the mouth that was very rewarding. What malt sweetness present was inconsequential. This was a hophead beer. Am I becoming one? Shit! Look what that did for Cornfield! Seriously, this was right up his alley and was much enjoyed even by this stoutie. Excellent beer.

Duane shared a bottle of this with me. Thanks! Hazy orange pour, lots of citrus hop aroma. Flavor fell a little short of the aroma, but was still very good. Not as much malt in this as other IIPAs though. Good but not great IIPA.

220z bottle via Homebrew Mys Swap (thanks Rudolf!) Pours a hazy amber with an average size head. Nose is mostly citrus and pine. Taste starts quite sweet and ends bittersweet and in between there is orange, pineapple, mango, and graoefruit, with some subtle pine in the finish. It is a nice hop profile, and the malts are definitely heavy. This could almost be called a BarleyWine... There are some phenols present in the finish, as the alcohol is not hidden at all. Body is full, carbonation medium.
