Pours a fairly light gold with an offwhite head, presenting an aroma that is really heavy on the citrus and pith and not much else in there. The flavor, while one dimensional, is very nice - not too sweet, a mouth-puckering bitter citrus with almost a hint of sour, mild sweet malts flirting around the hops but none of the overdone burnt caramel that so often mars the style, leaving a deliciously drinkable beer that goes down a lot easier than its 9% might make one think. Slight flavor of alcohol, relatively smooth mouthfeel, serious hop showcase, all-around about as nice as IIPA gets.
A curious note: both nights after drinking this one, I had a strange caffeine-like buzz that kept me from sleeping in the middle of the night. Something in the hops? Or just coincidence? YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA

This deep amber beer with its big frothy white head had some kick-ass hops going for it in the aroma and taste. The intense hoppiness gave a burn in the mouth that was very rewarding. What malt sweetness present was inconsequential. This was a hophead beer. Am I becoming one? Shit! Look what that did for Cornfield! Seriously, this was right up his alley and was much enjoyed even by this stoutie. Excellent beer.

Flavor fell a little short of the aroma, but was still very good. Not as much malt in this as other IIPAs though. Good but not great IIPA. kenb (1100), Oregon, USA

Pours a hazy amber with an average size head. Nose is mostly citrus and pine. Taste starts quite sweet and ends bittersweet and in between there is orange, pineapple, mango, and graoefruit, with some subtle pine in the finish. It is a nice hop profile, and the malts are definitely heavy. This could almost be called a BarleyWine... There are some phenols present in the finish, as the alcohol is not hidden at all. Body is full, carbonation medium. xarcadia (9), USA does not count | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 26, 2007 Extremely hoppy aroma. The taste is mild in comparison, but still nice hops. The palate is surprisingly smooth. Goes great with ribeye steak! CelticBrew (691), The Crystal Coast, North Carolina, USA

Flavor is smooth, flowers, hops. Surprisingly no hop bite or bitterness. Not a bad IIPA. In my opinion they’ve taken their West Coast I.P.A. and simply ran a different carbonation scheme not unlike Alesmith’s I.P.A. which employs thr micro-bubbles carbonation style if you pick up what I;m layin’ down. Great beer, but.... gotohelunc (473), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA

Smells of orange peel and grapefruit. The flavor is an interesting mix between a hoppy IPA and the spice of a Saison. Not the hop-forward IPA I was expecting, but it’s flavor is all it’s own and really drinkable. Quite floral and citrusy. It’s not a must have, but I’ll be trying this one again if they start coming to NC.
