Green Flash Imperial IPA

Pours a very slightly hazy amber-orange hue producing a tight, thick huge head. Nice foam retention and sheets of lacing noted throughout the glass. Beautiful aromas of grapefruit and orange rinds, pineapple, sun-drenched pine needles, lemon zest and a touch of caramel swirled in malted milk. Palate is quite full, velvety and slightly oily; has a nice chewiness in the mouthfeel. Flavors are those of a classic and well done west coast IPA. Tons of citrus hops swarm over the tastebuds on the initial sip. A moderately welcomed and balanced caramel-toffee sweetness intervenes to render a nice balance. A faint spiciness and alcohol warmth appears in the background. Very drinkable and solid rendition of the style.

Poured beautifully and floral bouquet immediately filled my nose. Taste was as good as expected with overpowering (a good thing!) hops. Sediment in the bottom of my empty glass was a bonus.

Bottle. Pours with small fairly dense off white head, retains small layer and leaves it down the sides of glass. Body is clear and amber. Aroma is light malt, with heavy dose of hops. I detect citrus, citrus rind, grapefruit and maybe honeydew, as well as some pepper, a touch of sweet floral, and something I can’t define yet. Might be slightly doughy as well. Medium bodied with a slightly oily and sticky texture and lively carbonation. The flavor is long in duration while being lightly sweet and heavily bitter. This has the longest lasting resiny finish and the aftertaste is just phenomenal. I may have to try another bottle before I get too crazy here, but this has more than just a huge dose of hops, it has a huge dose that ends up with an interesting flavor, may be the blend of summit and nugget...i don’t know. Good beer though, maybe a little too sweet at times but everything else is good and has a nice balance. Perhaps on the next bottle I will figure out what I’m missing in the aroma.....as I take another sniff it might be old shoes. Hmmmm................................................................................................................... Okay, I’m back. I didn’t finish the bottle yet and was doing so while looking at the other reviews (i refuse to look first as I think it may skew my ratings) and I found one that mentions coconut. I think I might have missed that but I agree it is there. Not the fake mailibu rum and sun tan lotion coconut, but the real unsweetened coconut. That may be what I was missing.

Pours clear golden / bronze with a large light tan pillowy head. The aroma has lots of citrus (orange & pineapple), sweetness and caramel malty backbone. Very full, rich and hoppy. Medium / fully body with fairly soft carbonation. The flavor starts with citrus and pineapple-like hops along with coconut, pine and lightly toasted malt. The finish is a tropical bomb with lots of pineapple, coconut and just a ton of resin clinging to all parts of the mouth. Thumbs up to this delightful beer.

Wonderfully hoppy aroma. The flavor has quite a bit of hops with some creamy coating characters at the end. Pretty tasty, sticks in the mouth too much.

I actually prefer the West Coast IPA but this one is more balanced, has a nice mix of fruits, spices and bitterness with an excellent crispy floral finish. The alcohol is well hidden. I miss this beer I got at State Line in Elkton, MD. They also have the Green Flash Barley wine there.

Medium foamy yellow head. Butterscotch color and clear. Just loads and loads of fresh-cut grass combined with a perfect amount of peach, making for a gorgeous flavor and nose. [Compared next to a Moylan’s Hopsickle] The Hopsickle is more malty, sweet, and syrupy; the Green Flash is way more focused on delicious grass. Both are fantastic, but I prefer the Green Flash. [Tasted next to a Three Floyds Dreadnaught Imperial IPA] The Dreadnaught is very peachy in the nose; the Green Flash is ganja and grass. Not suprisingly, the taste matches. Besides that, the Green Flash has more hop sting aftertaste; the Dreadnaught has more of a warm syrupy aftertaste. Both impeccable. I personally prefer the Green Flash. [Tasted next to a Lagunitas Sonoma Farmhouse Hop Stoopid] The Green Flash has a more complex flavor, and more sting.

22oz bottle. Pours a slightly hazy orange tinged gold, with a dense two finger head that fades slowly to a thick cap. The resulting lace is very sticky, leaving a solid sheet on the interior of the glass. Smell; lots of citrus with grapefruit and orange peels. There’s a mild hint of some sweet malts, but this one is definitely all about the citric hops. Taste; the grapefruit and oranges really stand out, and there’s also a touch of lemons in there as well. The malts are more noticable in the flavor than they were in the aroma, with a little caramel and biscuits, and there’s a little bit of an alcohol spiciness in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with a bit of a biting carbonation, and the drinkability is good.
