Commercial Description:
"San Diego-style IPA, as it has come to be known by many, is a super-hoppy, high gravity, yet highly quaffable ale. Green Flash Imperial IPA is created in this new tradition, with intense hop flavors and aromas from a unique blend of Summit and Nugget hops. It’s all about the hops!" -- Brewmaster Chuck Silva

Poured a golden to slight orange color, very nice head, good retention, lacing was decent. The aroma was citrus, some pine, very fruity. The flavor was bitter citrus rinds, wet dog, and some fruit juice flavors. The latter was the only let down, almost seemed like some fruits were added, although I’m sure that wasn’t the case (too many crystal malts in here?). Mouthfeel was light for a dIPA and the alcohol very smooth. Not a bad beer, despite expecting a dud. Re-rate, 12/07, bottle from bfeld: Not much else to add to previous rating, although my first comment on aroma was "wet sponge" (compared to "wet dog" previously, completely independent of one another). Spicey, woodsy notes came out from the hops, alongside floral and citrus components. Other than that, original rating stands.

(On cask at the PP Real Ale Fest 2006)Pours with a golden-amber body topped by a thin head with little lacing. The aroma is slightly sweet and flowery with a slight peppery note, as well as, a little citrus. The flavor is similar with a bit less pepper and a touch of tomato (?). Medium to full bodied, smooth and a touch warming.

Hazy, thick, syrupy looking body. Glowing orange-amber color. Large, fluffy off-white head settles quickly to a thin patchy film with a skinny edge. Minimal spotty lacing dots the glass. The nose has a strange buttered graham cracker profile up front, almost like a pie crust. Scents of strong orange and grapefruit hops add sharpness, while cereal grains add a grainy component to the background. The flavor is again heavily based on buttery malts, with caramel and toffee playing big roles. Sour grapefruit hops rush in on the back end. Moderately astringent finish. Medium-heavy, syrupy body. Sits pretty heavy. This is a somewhat strange brew that let me down a bit.

22oz bottle. pours a bright amber pale color with nice head. nose is clearly PNW hops, hop aroma is soft, grassy, piney, grapefruit, and leathery. flavor just isn’t bitter enough (unsure of age), very biscuity, citrus, sweet finish, alcohol in the flavor too. a very big hoppy beer finish.

Pours clear copper, smallish white head. Aroma is of pine and citrus. Very fresh and crisp taste. Piney flavor; some sweetness and caramel. Very pronounced hop ending and aftertaste. Pretty good; but a little light for the style. Would have liked more on the palate.

Enjoyed on 3/15/2007... Green Flash Imperial IPA pours a nearly clear, orange/bright and shiny copper color with a creamy off-white head. The resulting crown lasts from beginning to end and leaves impressive lacing that looks similar to falling rain drops. The juicy citrus aroma has lots of orange and grapefruit. There is some light pine toward the backside of the aroma as well. A sweet caramel malt base hits first and then there is a gradual layering on of hop flavors and bitterness. The hoppiness is full and mostly juicy citrus flavors (grapefruit and orange). The bitterness is fairly aggressive, but it doesn’t hit all at once and therefore doesn’t seem like 101 IBUs. Instead, it builds slowly so it kind of sneaks up and then nearly overwhelms the palate. The finish is just dry enough and is accompanied by a lingering tart grapefruit bitterness that bribes you or maybe dares you to take another drink. The carbonation level of this beer is pretty mild which creates a mellow, creamy, and smooth mouthfeel. This is an extremely well constructed beer. Not only does it look, smell, taste, and feel great, but the alcohol (9% ABV) is also extremely well hidden which really makes this beer dangerous. If there was such a thing as a "session Imperial IPA" then this would be the one! However, it is just so good all around that taking time to really enjoy and savor this beer is the proper thing to do... 22 oz bottle procured for me by illinismitty. Thank you Sean! I appreciate your thoughtfulness. This was a killer Imperial IPA!
