Commercial Description:
"San Diego-style IPA, as it has come to be known by many, is a super-hoppy, high gravity, yet highly quaffable ale. Green Flash Imperial IPA is created in this new tradition, with intense hop flavors and aromas from a unique blend of Summit and Nugget hops. It’s all about the hops!" -- Brewmaster Chuck Silva

Poured amber with a large semi-creamy/frothy white head. Nice aroma upfront with notes of pine, some grapefruit rind, a touch of grass and alcohol. Flavor is surprisingly sweet with notes of pine and a touch of bitter orange/grapefruit rind, backed up by sweet alcohol. Finish is light and dry. Overall I enjoyed the beer, and it was quite easy drinking. I would have liked more assertiveness in the hop flavor, especially in the citrus department, and I think it might have actually been too easy drinking for the style, but still quite well made and enjoyable.

22 oz. bottle. Pours a clear orange amber color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma is a big citrus sensation with orange and grapefruit dominating. The nose is rounded out by sweet caramel malt and some pine. The flavor has a nice caraeml malt base from which the hops do their best to dominate. Again, the hops are mainly citrus (orange and grapefruit) and pine. The bitterness builds with each drink. Medium bodied with a dry finish. The alcohol is not a factor in the flavor which at 9% is nice. I find myself drawn to the West Coast IPA/IIPA.

Bottled sample via (and shared with) oakbluff. Almost clear light orange in colour with medium carbonation. Aromas of fresh cut grass, c-hops, and chives. Loads of green c-hops in the mouth, along with more green onion, earth, and light pale malts. A hint of woodiness was also present. Medium bodied with a clean finish. Great stuff... highlight of the night for me!

22 oz. bomber in Colorado on 3/23/07 poured a clear gold and offered up a large rocky white head with excellent durability and lace. Monster fresh hop aroma is backed up by light toffee. Medium body and resinous mouthfeel that nicely fits the style, and without obvious evidence of the high ABV. Caramel base flavors juxtaposed to the grapefruit bitterness that brings on and extended dry finish. Really nice Imperial IPA for hopheads.

Thanks to realale420 for this pour. Burnt orange in color with hugh fothy head. Big nose of hops, I mean big. Flavor is all hops up front, then is mellowed by a good balance of malt. Finish is dry and hoppy.

Bottle acquired via trade with hillfiiiiire...THANKS AGAIN NICK!!! This one is definitely a step above the rest of Green Flash’s brews (my opinion, of course). Hop Head & West Coast IPA seem to be hoppy just for the sake of being hoppy, if that makes sense. This one, although BIG, exhibits some balance of flavors. Golden, aggressive, refined.

Thanks to Timmy300 for this one. Reminds me a lot of Hop Slam for some reason. A bit sweet and definitely hop, though no hop bomb in terms of bitterness. Very smooth and drinkable. Pour is nice golden yellow with a fluffy head. Nice beer that I’m glad to see is in Illinois these days.
