COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"San Diego-style IPA, as it has come to be known by many, is a super-hoppy, high gravity, yet highly quaffable ale. Green Flash Imperial IPA is created in this new tradition, with intense hop flavors and aromas from a unique blend of Summit and Nugget hops. Itís all about the hops!" -- Brewmaster Chuck Silva

Must have been saving this rate for after the Pliny one... Drank both this and Pliny the Elder with my brother in law Dwain on the same night maybe nine months ago. Dwain, who maybe had never had an IPA in his life up till this point had some commentary that he asked me to write down about the beers we were drinking. I intended originally to provide a whole series of such ratings where I put down my notes then his but I think this only panned out to like two or three beers. Maybe Iíll try again in the future.

Pours a golden, almost a light orange color with a huge white head and good lacing on the glass.

The aroma is herbal with a touch of cooking spice. There are plenty of pungent fruity hops. The alcohol character is very low and there is a little bit of toasty malt.

The flavor is hoppy with a medium bitterness, the hops are more of the spicy and grassy varietals but the beer does feature some melon and orange rind character as well as some odd tomato notes and a little bit of toasty malt.

And now for the Brother Dwain bonus rate:
Aroma:
This is a fruity beer by smell, and it also smells like good pot.

Flavor: This tastes really bitter & not as good as Pliny the Elder

Overall: Way too bitter for me to even drink.

Bottle. So when I have a DIPA this good in a bottle, I have to rethink how often I want to buy a DIPA from a bottle. Normally I only want them on draft ( or freshly canned locals). Today I had two really nice bottled DIPAís with questionable bottling dates that really have me shocked. Iím a confused individual about my IPAís. This rant is for nobody but my own personal notes.

Aroma is tropical fruits, mild grass and subtle citrus. The flavor shows very nice balance yet still has the assertive hop punch and bitterness. Light floral upfront turning into tropical fruit and rounded out by citrus and just a mild touch of pine. Slightly dry texture with a minor hint of alcohol found in the tail end of the sip. A little bit of sugar found and a mild syrupy feeling. Overall I would seek this out on draft and would sample again happily.

great example of a well done west coast style IPA. sweet hops in the nose, hops are showcased in the flavor with a mild to high bitterness. easily would buy again...and again

Pours a clear golden with a thin white head. Honestly, this beer looks like what I expect an IPA to look like. Aroma of piney hops along with a bit of sweet vanilla. The sweetness to the aroma is different for an IPA, but not in a bad way. Flavor is a straight up hoppy IPA all around. Pine, grass, resin and all the rest. Just a bit of malt in the background. Though this beer has a lot of flavor and is high gravity, it is still very crisp in the mouth. Props to Green Flash for that. In Montana we donít see to have that many hopped up west coast style IPAs, so this is a good one to find here.

Very nice. Hops: dry, subtle, but intense. I like this a lot, but I like the Palate Wrecker more. High carbonation. Overall great beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Golden with a thick, bubbly head, some lacing, and a hoppy, piney nose. Mildly-carbonated intro followed quickly by intense hoppiness that persists with a long, honey-sweet, brown sugar finish.

Bottle from Bruisiní Ales. Big resiny piney beast of an ipa. Nice c-hop taste with angoos bittersweet balance. Very tasty.

Bomber from a case bought at work. Aroma is grapefruit, stinky caramel malt, candied citrus, flowers, perfume. Pours hazy orange with an off-white head with great retention; leaves some cobwebby lace. Taste is highly bitter with some candy sweetness backing it up. Flavors of citrus, cooked vegetables, alcohol. Not my kind of IPA.

Pours clear orange amber. Head is thick beige. Aroma is strong citrus, grass, bitter fruit rind and silage. Taste is dank, bitter acidic and malty with great grass, hay, exotic fruit peel, citrus and bready flavors. Malty sweet finish and resounding hop bitterness. Wow...that?s strong!! 101 IBUs; 9.0 ABV.
