"San Diego-style IPA, as it has come to be known by many, is a super-hoppy, high gravity, yet highly quaffable ale. Green Flash Imperial IPA is created in this new tradition, with intense hop flavors and aromas from a unique blend of Summit and Nugget hops. Itís all about the hops!" -- Brewmaster Chuck Silva

Bottle 66 cl @ Karhisma Birroteca (Piedimonte Matese - Caserta, Italy). Iíll be blowed if this aroma isnít... uh... well, I donít think Iím drinking a bad batch, but itís strange since no one in the last three rating pages didnít write anything about the frighteningly pot aroma. Yeah. POT! Listen, Iím not a jointer, never had seriously, but surely able to catch its smell. And Green Flash IIPA aroma is unambiguously that. Letís put on Bob Marley, guys. Anyway: also has a massive hops and piny aroma, oregano and earth notes. Grapefruit like fizzy gumdrops. Great freshness. Good orange-blonde appearance almost clear, two foam fingers. Body is medium, perfectly carbonated (a little fizzy) and without any trace of booze. Citrus, orange, lime, vegetables, tropical fruit, pomegranate, pot again (Jamming...) a touch of sugar. Although the 9.4% itís really refreshing, even if not session-one. Finish is herbaceous, resinous, not strong but lasts and gives a pleasant feeling, Maybe due to Super Skunk? Hahaha...

Bomber, in that great, distinctive Green Flash shape. Huuuge hop aroma right from the crown removal, dusty and green, lightly citrus, but with very nice floral and vegetal notes, resin and light oil, cream. Lightly hazy orange pour with mild carbonation and a dense rocky beige head. Taste is strongly sweet but thatís met quickly by strong (but still lesser) bitterness and finds a bready-yeasty balance after the collision. Somewhat sugary in the match with the mild alcohol, more form numbing than anything else, though thereís a little heat after some volume. Resinous, spicy, and earthy hops, not at all surprised to see Nugget in here, and thereís some slightly disappointing grapefruit and g.f. peel. Full body, slightly soft, certainly not too aggressive, and creamy rather than rasping. Decent but unspectacular (unsure of age); Iíd have again but wouldnít buy.

Bottle. Aroma fresh crisp hops, grassy, citrusy, orange, light resin. Clear golden to amber colour. Taste is assertively hoppy with high bitterness and a decent malt backbone. Orange, zest, grassy. ery refreshing despite the alcohol, which is hidden well. Moderate body.

Bomber. Best by 7/27/14 date. I hate when they do that. Tell me when it was bottled, ill determine the best by date. Some breweries say 4 months some 6. Stone is the only one who gets it right. 35 days. Even thatís too long. Sorry for the rant. This is a florallly double IPA. Bitterness is pretty damn hight. I taste every one of the 101 IBUs. Maybe more. Floral, herbal, maybe a bit earthy. The hops dominate. Just Iím more of a pine or citrus hop guy. Some of that floral ones come off like a basket of pit pouri. Middle of the road double IPA. Drinkable. But not going to buy again. Pretty much like every other green flash beer.

Pours orange-copper and clear with a foamy white head that leaves lacing as it disappates to a nice thick coating. Aroma is caramel malt and sweet floral hops. Taste is heavy caramel malt lifting into piney bitter hops that resinate. Aftertaste is the bitta. Low sweetness and higher bitterness than the typical IIPA.

Hop forward but quite a nice balance of hops... mostly citrus, but also some pine and floral hops and a touch of earthy hop flavor and pepper in the finish. Enjoyed the malt profile, did a good job holding up the hops.

From a bomber with 2 weeks left before "Best By" date. Pours a hazy amber with lasting off-white head and good lacing. Aroma is herbal pine, green leafy hops, but with some dish soap in there. Taste is very briefly sweet with citrus up front, then right away into a pretty big slam of grapefruity peppery bitterness in the middle. It hangs on for a long time, taking a good 10 seconds before the retronasal brings the biscuity malts in just a little. By definition this might be a West-Coast IPA, but the hop profile is dry and peppery, and when mixed with the alcohol presence it comes across menacing, but in a way that must be endured rather than enjoyed. Maybe a fresher sample would change my mind, but I canít pull punches when Iím still within the Best By period.
