This really shouldn’t be labeled as an american strong ale, there really needs to be a category for red ales, even if amber ale doesn’t quite fit the bill. Delicious hop bomb, but with the exact right amount of malt foundation. Wonderful.

On tap at Urge for the Total Tap Takeover with BP and GF. Copper pour with eggshell head. Sharp hoppiness and matching malty smooth goodness. Can definitely taste the hops and every bit of the alcohol. Nice strong beer.

Location: Draft at the RnH, 12/30/10
Aroma: The nose is resiny and grassy with some caramel, floral, and citrus notes
Appearance: This beer pours a nice copper color with a frothy white head
Flavor: The taste is rather resiny, decent sweetness, very nice hoppy presence
Palate: It has a sticky pine-like body, a nice mouthfeel and a long, dry finish
Overall Impression:
Overall this was a very nice example of the hoppy red style. Well-made and highly drinkable stuff. A bigger version of Hop Head Red? Seems like a good idea, and I enjoyed this one quite a bit

Cask at RnH: Rusty deep amber with a wispy light tan head. Huge resiny aroma- some toasted clean crystal malts mesh with a fruity hop richness- quite bright and perfumy. Silky body. Clean, toasted, richly resiny. Quite a bit of piny spruce like qualities. Rich long flavors yet dry and rounded. A nice hoppy brew.

Tap at Rattle n Hum. Poured a dark copper. Nose is hops and big sweet malts and a hint of the abv. Bitter sweet and lots of malts meet big hops. Super balanced almost leaning towards the malty side. A big and bitter finish.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 TimE (2584) - Tokyo, JAPAN - DEC 1, 2010
Deep red color. Nose of strawberries and caramel, but an underlying hoppiness that just subtly pops its head up without ever being too obvious. The mouth is malt front then hops kick in. A bit heavy but the alcohol is definitely well hidden. Well made, well executed. moderate bitter finish. Excellent.

Draft. Pours an amber toned body with a light off white head and ok retention. Green grass tones with citrus and grass notes. Mild resinous malt tones and bitter prickly drying. Very nice.

Not one of my Flash favorites for sure. This one is bit of a muddle. Didn’t even finish the taster. Unbalanced with a bit of a boozy kick. Mostly malt. Not on style for me.

UPDATED: NOV 24, 2010 Draft at Stone. Clear red pour, off-white head. Fresh piney hops, grapefruit, bready malt, and caramel. It’s not unusual, or even exciting for that matter, but it is a very good tasting fresh red ale. I like it a lot.
