Commercial Description:
Le Freak is a modern ale created by converging two beer styles, Belgian Trippel and American Imperial IPA. The use of two yeast strains further marries the styles and American hops give the beer its modern flare.

22oz bomber served in a Livery trappist glass. Cloudy, glowing orange pour with a thin head of off-white foam that quickly faded away. Spotty lacing. The aroma consisted of pale malt, soapy pine, and citrus. The flavor featured upfront citrus and pine bitterness, followed by some light candi sugar, pale malt, and also some bready yeast. The yeast is pretty clean if they were trying for a Belgian feel. Full-bodied and lightly carbonated. This one didn’t really do much for me. Not bad, but just boring and uninteresting.

aroma is hops, candy sugar and yeast. hop aroma is quite grassy with light citrus. body is pale straw yellow, a sharp blonde. flavor is huge hop bitterness with a backbone of the soft yeast which is a huge contrast. bitterness lingers and hit of booze rides out long as well. mouthfeel is soft and comforting. this beer is like firecrackers going off all around you, i want to cover my head and hide or maybe even cry. this beer is quite easy to rate as the flavors are so outright and this is obviously even better then the chouffe which is already top 10 for me.

On tap from Downtown Johnny Brown’s in San Diego. Pours deep gold with a thick creamy white head. Floral aroma. Honeysuckle. Sweet malty body with a good stiff bitterness. Just a parching level of hops to this beer. Floral tones persist throughout this brew. Thick lacing rings. Incredible.

Herbal hoppiness, booze & some brown sugar maltiness in the nose. Flavor is dominated by a strong American hop bitterness, some citrus & brown sugar. Mostly its just bitter.

22oz. bomber served in a Duvel tulip. Poured a brilliant clear gold with a thin white head. Bottle conditioned. Lots of piney hops in the aroma. Medium bodied with a solid malt base. Alcohol is well hidden. Pretty drinkable for the ABV. The Belgian spice is there along with a load of hop bitterness in the finish. Not quite sure if I like this one, but it is an interesting mix of two brewing styles.

Light orange with good, foamy off-white head / Delicate, floral & perfumey nose of citrus, cream, and dry hops / Light to medium body with some biting hops but with good balance and fine dry finish / Stylish, floral flavors of orange, grass, cream, dry hops, banana, violets, and brett / Whatever it is, it’s terrific.

Bottle. Pours a hazy prange color that clears up and has a big rocky white head. Nose is yeasty and lightly hoppy with lots of fruit, mostly melon. Palate is kinda chalky but also smooth and clean. Flavor is meklony fruits with a yeast note and some light hops bitterness.
