zach8270 (2051), Henrietta, New York, USA Jan 25, 2009 (bottle - 22 oz) Cloudy amber color with a big and thick white head that makes great lacing. Aroma is very interesting. A lot of floral hops and citrus mixed with that distinctive Belgian yeast aroma. Rather spicy. The flavor is very spicy and yeasty at the beginning that blends well with a floral and citrusy hop bite. The bitterness lingers for a long time and transcends into a sweet and fruity middle and a very bitter floral finish. Tons of bitterness throughout. Quite interesting, but definitely reminded me of a strong IPA. bellmyer (41), EAST MOLINE, Illinois, USA Jan 25, 2009 Pour is a cloudy orange with a nice white head that hangs out for awhile. Nose is full of hops. Smells like a double IPA with yeast in it. Good smell. At first taste it is sweet and hoppy. Maybe a little too sweet. Then at the end you get a sour and bitter taste followed by a little warming from the 9% ABV. Good lacing. Final verdict is that it is more of an IPA or a double IPA. A very interesting brew that you should at least try once. douglas88 (1557), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Jan 24, 2009 Bomber shared thanks to footbalm. Pours a cloudy apricot color with a tiny head. The aroma is sweet citrus, yeast, some spices and rich malts. The flavor is interesting; sweet citrus hops, some light bitterness in the finish, yeast, some sweet malts also. Closer to an IPA than anything else. Nice. An interesting mix of goodness. Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 24, 2009 Very good melange of West COast IPA and Belgian. Aroma is hoppy, and complex. Taste is above average mouthfeel, almost full mouthfeel. Taste is satisfying: Controlled hoppiness, with yeast notes. GardenGabe (125), Denver, Colorado, USA Jan 24, 2009 Big nose with the unfortunate overtone of that sour stall beer smell which plagues most drinking establishments. Not that is is unpleasant but not the best association. Once you get past that it smells of spicy cloves with earth overtone and some slight flower sent.
A golden amber pour with an amazing creamy head, it looks light a pale yellow pillowy cloud. Slow to settle leaving prodigious lacing. The first sip seemed too sweet (clear taste of candy sugar) but that initial sweetness soon gives way to the hops. Some citrus some flower but the bitter is a little to out of balance. I am inclined to say too much but I think that it is a good amount just not a perfect balance. Soft but full mouth feel I like the combination to come through a little more but short of that this is damn good. Really a fabulous beer. theisti (1640), Leawood, Kansas, USA Jan 22, 2009 22 oz bottle courtesy of MaltOMeal. Pour is cloudy hazy orange, reddish with a one inch off white head that falls pretty quick. Some patchy lacing. Aroma of resin citrus hops, toasted bread malt and faint spicy yeastiness. Taste is bitter hops immediately, followed by citrus peel sweetness, then the malt leading to a honey sweet drying finish, followed by another touch of bitterness. There is a grassy, straw flavor to the long finish. Flavorful beer, with quite a bit going on. Palate starts medium, but thins out towards its very dry finish. Hint of alcohol in the warming aftertaste. This was nice, but not terribly refined. Thanks for sending this my way Bill. Darkover (1308), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jan 20, 2009 Hazy golden color with a big beige head. Aroma of piney hops, yeast, spices and some banana. Flavor of piney hops, sweet malts and a little fruit. Narnad (682), Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA Jan 17, 2009 Pours from 22 oz bottle a semi murky orange amber color, medium carbonation and a very dense, frothy, white head that sticks around while drinking. Aroma is a mix of pine, grass and citrus hops notes, yeasty, doughy with some spice and a slight banana scent. Flavor has an alcohol warmth throughout the tasting. A sweet bread flavor hits first with some light banana esters and yeasty notes, moves into a piny/grassy hop bitterness bite and finishes with very ripe banana flavor. The beer is very smooth and probably one of the more unique blending of styles I have ever had the chance to drink. Overall I am very pleased with this selection for the evening, highly recommending it to those have the opportunity to pick up locally. This may be one I keep around in my fridge on a consistent basis due to the great range of flavors present.
