GAManiac (1123), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jan 11, 2009 Bottle shared by a generous soul at the HMoG at the Brick Store.
Pours hazy yellow with a small white creamy head that dissipates slowly and leaves a little lacing.
The aroma was dominated by light fruits, with pineapples and lemons playing prominently. There was also a big bready malt aroma in the background.
The taste follows the nose with the light fruits and bready malt, but there is definitely a bit more spicy Belgian yeast than the aroma.
The mouthfeel is smooth but highly carbonated and very crisp in the finish.
This is a good Belgian and tough to categorize, but, either way, it’s tasty. MartinT (5030), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jan 11, 2009 Updated: May 13, 2009My Bottom Line:
An explosive perfume of pine, flower petals and herbs leads to bubblegum phenols and profound resinous hop bitterness in this loud yet personable Double IPA/Belgian-style Strong Ale hybrid.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the misty golden amber.
-The aroma is very complex and definitely hop happy.
-Some pineapple-like fruitiness comes from the union of hops and doughy yeast.
-Even though it is not really balanced, this brew is very flavorful throughout and quite enjoyable.
-The malt character is of sweetened bread.
Bottles. Dorwart (1807), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA Jan 10, 2009 About a 1 inch thick head of medium sized but very dense bubbles. Pretty active carbonation. Belgian yeasty aroma with some white grapes, pears, straw, and sugary sweetness. Color is a dark golden orange. Wonderful flavor. Nice malt backbone. Caramel, oranges, abundant grapefruit bitterness and dry grainy cereal notes. Finishes bitter with lingering grapefruit rind and dryness. A very good and very hoppy belgian. Good stuff! T2Tool (352), Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA Jan 9, 2009 From a 22-oz bottle. Has this beer paired with a nice fish dinner and it really went well. Appearance was a hazy-golden color with an aroma of oranges, belgian yeast and candi sugar. Taste the same as the aroma with the added additiona of a spicy taste of pepper at the finish. GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Jan 7, 2009 Bottle from nearbeer. Poured a clear bright orange color. The head was creamy and off white. Attractive aroma of distinct flower blossom, clove, and orange marmalade. Light to medium bodied and dry-ish with moderate hop bitterness. The 9% ABV was noticeable, but not overpowering. The citrusy/piney hops and spicy flavors imparted by the Belgian yeast worked well together. I also tasted a bit of distinct grapefruit rind after the finish. Maybe a bit too much alcohol, but otherwise delicious. tomthompson89 (1460), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 7, 2009 poured nice golden color nice foam and very cloudy, nose is sweet spicy hops, some belgian spices and some pine. flavor is greatgreat hop character with everything u would want in a trippel. Fantastic beer HopheadHans (753), Bay Area, California, USA Jan 4, 2009 Bottle. Pours with a copper to golden color.
Smells like a fruity bread, with definite bready notes augmented by grapefruit. Flavor is a nice mixture of hoppy notes and Belgian characteristics, a lot of pine and flowers together with some spice and dough. Finishes with a bitter note. CapFlu (3480), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Jan 3, 2009 (22oz bottle) Purchased at Brewery Creek in Vancouver, BC. Great big, foamy white mountainous head with a clear, deep amber, highly carbonated body. Nose of amarillo and cascade hops and a bit tinny aroma finish. Great sweetness, wild yeasti-goodness, strong pine flavour with a lasting bite. I’d definitely have this again, very nice 8/5/8/4/16
