4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Rating #901 - January 11, 2014 - Bottle from Coop. Huge frothy head erupts from this golden pour in my st. ambroise chalice. Super carbonation, medium-high alcohol warmth. Lots of typical belgie yeastyness on the nose, citrus, orange zest, coriander, all-spicey noble hop zest. Unreal smoothness and zestiness on the palate.

650ml brown bottle. Golden pour, minor haze. Fat white foam on top, lots of lace rings. Nose has west coast hops- pine, orange. Taste has yeast, grain, mild spice and a bit of fruit and citrus. Bitter finish with piney and citrus hops. A nice hopped up tripel, quite liking the hop choices and bitterness.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nose has grapefruit, tropical hops, pine, candied sugar, slight funk. Light amber color with tiny white lacing. Wow, big hops down the middle back of my tongue, but also the yeasty sweetness of a triple is there. Dank, malty....
Started out where you could define both styles but now the hops just wrecked everything, all I get is a dipa. Nice idea but didn’t work for me.

Pours cloudy dark golden with frothy white head. Smells of yeast, fruit, hops and orange. Smooth malty flavor with ints of grass and a nice bitter hoppy finish. Silky smooth on palate. Light body medium carbonation. Really good.

Funky. hoppy, yeasty beast of a beer. At the crossroads of a triple and a DIPA is Le Freak. Pours a somewhat hazed bright copper with a thick bubbly yellow head. The nose is well hopped with notes of pine, grapefruit and grass. Aromas of citrus esters and a hint of coriander come from the triple part. Well balanced wheat malts and NW hops give an interesting profile with light spiced and estery notes then a moderate bitterness on the finish. Overall an intriguing brew.

Great great pour - best in ages. Huge permanent tightly packed light tan crown with similar lacing. The beer is a clear amber. Drank most of it and now I got to review? Bah! Floral, melon, line, pepper and yeast, pine, apricot and dank. Nose has been happified. Tasty and thick. Very balaned. Caramel, pepper, slick bitterness, lots of pine, woody, rrgf, shit his when straight to my head. UFC from Asia - translator lady has worst everything ever. Nice polka dots. Lol. Dude did a lot of yelling - I was sure he was going to commit suicide while flashing back to flying a zero. Thickness of caramel and fruity citrus, yeasty. Good stuff not as bold as I prefer but this is so well crafted and complimentary of its qualities. Enjoyable even if it lacks excitement.

A slightly hazy medium golden brew with about an inch of foam.
It’s a hoppy fruity yeasty smell that I get. I also sense some candi sugar sweetness.
Dry hoppy goodness with Belgian yeasty fruitiness, the label, she does not lie. A bit strong with the alcohol presence but manageable. Nice sipping brew that has a nice balance between the 2 attributes I mentioned.
Very nice mouthfeel adds to my admiration of Le Freak. I’m enjoying it.

Bottle, Wordens Market. Bold chestnut copper color with a massive beige head… takes forever to come down. Lots of sheet lacing. Mild nose is floral and yeast. Somewhat dusty, but not dry. The taste is more Belgian Tripel than IPA; good yeast flavors, faint esters, and dusty barnyard. Mild floral hops. Drinks really smooth and just about perfectly carbonated for my liking. I had expected something big, bold, and brash… this is smooth and refined. Nice combo of the styles.

I love this beer. Not overly sweet like some Imperial IPAs with a well balanced finish. Limes, lemons, caramel, cinnamon & lots of other spices?! Drink it & have another - you WILL like it!

A marriage of styles? But a bit of a dysfunctional one. A hoppy triple. I can’t say I even like the idea. The whole purpose of the great Belgian styles is to be malty and sweet. Adding hops does not improve it. That being said, as an IPA this tasted alright. Kind of tastes more like a hoppy saison than a tripel.
