Le Freak is a modern ale created by converging two beer styles, Belgian Trippel and American Imperial IPA. The use of two yeast strains further marries the styles and American hops give the beer its modern flare.

UPDATED: APR 1, 2014 22 oz bottle poured into a goblet. The aroma of warm caramel syrup could be detected on the nose as I was pouring it. Leaning in a bit closer, there was also a strong peach-like note with the caramel. After a short time, a candy sugar note also poked through with a pie crust-like breadiness; kinda reminded me of a peach cobbler pie. There were also some notes of raisin, oranges, a hint of a floral quality, and, near the end of the bottle, a bubblegum aroma. It pours a clear orange amber (of course, as with any bottle conditioned beer, as it nears the end of the bottle, it gets a bit of haze) with a foamy, rocky head that’s dense and creamy in texture. The head slowly dissipates, leaving a big puffy island floating on the drink as well as an abundant amount of puffy stripes of lace on the glass. The taste is a medium sweet with a medium high bitter and a very light, faint sour note that blends well. There’s a very soft, pillowy, creamy carbonation to accompany the creamy textured beer. The medium / medium full body starts with a toffee and toasted bread flavor and some hints at stone fruit (apricot / peach) and raisin. The toffee becomes much more prevalent by mid to late bottle. It finishes with a refreshing pine and citrus combination with hints of grass. These traits linger in the aftertaste with a hop zest and some toffee too. I want to say this finishes dry, but really, an abundantly spiced juicy quality fits it better.

On tap at Global Brew. Hazy golden with a small head that remains. Aroma is fresh mown grass and yeast. Taste is tart citrus, sweet malt, a bit of funk and mild hoppiness. Nice stuff, interesting.

Big bottle. Dark gold with frothy white head. Smells yeasty and slightly sweet. Love the aroma. Crisp bite at first, Then typical trippel sweet yeast flavor. Finish is solid. Some hop bitterness lingers. Smells better than it tastes, but a freaky great beer overall.

A superb beer that manages to hide its strength without overpowering it with something else. Full bodied and precisely balanced - this is one Californian the Belgians could learn something from.

I had this at Global Brew. Pours golden color with a thick white head. Taste belgian yeast, sweet, with a hop kick. I thought this was pretty good. I would drink this again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

På flaska. Grumlig bärnstensfärgad vätska med en lite vit skumkrona. Doftar ljuvligt blommigt. Smak av frukt med bra avrundad beska.

1" foamy off-white small bubble head, decreases moderately quickly leaving behind good long-lasting lace. Deep amber slightly cloudy liquid. Aroma of clove spices with some fruit. Yeast forward spicy taste, followed by malty and hoppy bitterness, finishes surprisingly clean. Moderate to full body and dry with warm finish. Very interesting and enjoyable combination of IPA with Belgian (not just a marketing gimmick!) and surprisingly easy to drink given its strength! Cheers again to GGB! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Really interesting how they blended a Belgian style with an American pale ale. Sweet like a tripel but still hopped and bitter. Really different, really tasty.

12oz pour at haymarket. Cloudy orange pour with a thick white head. Sweet malt aroma, lots of spice and pepper and big earthy hops. Tatse is medium bodied, huge spicy hop taste with hints of pepper and orange. Dry bitter hop aftertaste. An interesting collaboration of styles, very big and bold yet exhibiting some nice Belgian yeast influences. Good beer.
