Commercial Description:
Le Freak is a modern ale created by converging two beer styles, Belgian Trippel and American Imperial IPA. The use of two yeast strains further marries the styles and American hops give the beer its modern flare.

On tap at Green Flash, they said they were the first or only brewery to create a Belgian IPA, sounds dubious but ok. Hazy, cloudy, murky yellow orange. Smells spicy, some herbal hops. Taste is more perfume than floral. Mouthfeel was chewy and probably the best feature of this beer. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 09-30-2007 17:20:41

On tap at Cole’s. Copper with a small head. Aroma is more tripel than IPA, with the requisite candi sugar, spice and yeast, with some citrussy hops. However, the early boil hops make their presence felt in the flavour. This beer is bitter to the point that it almost tastes like burning.

Bottled at Pikkulintu, Helsinki. Copper to amber color. Perfumed, flowery, fruity, herbal and slightly tart aroma with notes of rhubarb. Orangey, herbal, grainy, slightly peppery and slightly clovey. Initially sweet with dry, bitter and herbal finish with a hint of soap. Tasty, complex and unique.

Bottle: The aroma is Belgian yeast, cotton candy, and some citrus hoppiness. It pours a cloudy brownish-orange with a small soapy white head. The flavor mimics the aroma. It starts with Belgian yeast, cotton candy, and candi sugar. The finish has moderate citrus hops. Medium bodied with soft carbonation and mouthfeel.

Bottle. Pours a light and hazy amber color with large thick white head. Aroma is grapefruit citrus with some spice and sweet malt. Flavor is on the sweet side but hoppy, spicy, and lightly fruity. Finish dries out some and offers hints of the belgian yeast with a fairly lengthy bitterness. A wide range of interesting flavors in a beer that borders on confused.

The brewers at Green Flash Brewing Company have really out done themselves with this convergence of beer styles where American Imperial IPA meets Belgium trippel. The end result is a zesty brew with enticing American hops and Belgian yeast aromatics that lead you to delicious malts and a complex layering of hop flavors that quench and refresh your pallet. When you pour it you notice its orangish amber color with a huge amount of American hops on the nose with notes of citrus. The palate itself feels heavy at first but then leaves you with a silky smooth mouth full of yeast and hops beautifully layered with fruity flavors of banana and grapefruit.
