Commercial Description:
Le Freak is a modern ale created by converging two beer styles, Belgian Trippel and American Imperial IPA. The use of two yeast strains further marries the styles and American hops give the beer its modern flare.

A 0.5L bottle at Pikkulintu. Soft mild hoppy nose. Pale head. Slightly hazy golden yellow/orange colour. More than average hoppiness. More IPA than a abbey tripel. At the end hops bite.

1pt6oz bottle. A nice mix of bitter and sweet. It retains the long bitterness of an ipa but there remains a sense of the familiar belgian yestiness and sweetness. I find the combination to create something not quite IPA and not quite trippel. I’m not sure if it’s truly successful, but it most certainly is not bad.

[2087-20090410] 1pt6floz bottle. Sweaty pine resin aroma with evergreen trunk sap notes. Hazy, medium orange body with a long-lasting creamy off-white head. Heavy grass-stained tree trunks with tons of pithy citrus and a long bitter aftertaste. Full body seems chewy. Packs a bitter punch, but doesn’t quite get it together in the end.

(Bottle at Pikkulintu, Helsinki, on 2009-06-10) Orange and cloudy. Medium sized and almost white head. Fruity, sweet and hoppy aroma. Full bodied and little bit dry palate with medium carbonation. Fruitiness, yeast, hops, grass, citiricness, light sweetness and bitterness in taste. Fruity and harshly bitter aftertaste.

Bottle 1pt. 6fl.oz. @ home.
Clear medium orange color with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, moderate to light heavy hoppy, perfume, orange, moderate yeasty, coriander. Flavor is moderate sweet and moderate to light heavy bitter with a long to average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20090128]

an interesting trippel that tastes like a cross between a trippel and an ipa. interesting and tasty. a tad more hops than a normal trippel but with less funkiness

Poured a darker gold. Nose was spicy, floral and citrus hops. Some candy sweetness. Flavor was a strange mix of belgian yeast character and C hops. Nice caramel malt sweetness and a not so overwhelming alcohol presence eventually balanced out the yeast/hop medley. Probably one of the best executions of a style i don’t really care for (belgian IPA).

(Bottled) Pale copper with a smallish, but firm head. Aroma of some warming alcohol, soft spiciness, some lemon and raisins. Spicy-alcoholic flavor with toffee maltiness and low bitterness. Medium to full body, soft carbonation. Can’t really get the IPA from this, but nevertheless it’s an ok, spicy tripel with lots of maltiness.
