Commercial Description:
Le Freak is a modern ale created by converging two beer styles, Belgian Trippel and American Imperial IPA. The use of two yeast strains further marries the styles and American hops give the beer its modern flare.

Tasted at Green Flash. Golden amber with a thin white head. Decent hoppy aroma. Taste of hops, fruit, bread, and finishing sweet. Pretty damn good.

Bottle: Poured a deep hazy orangey color ale with a large foamy head with great retention and good lacing. Aroma of dry citrusy hops. Taste is also dominated by dry citrusy hops with a lightly sweet malt body. Body is quite full with great carbonation and no sign of alcohol. Very well done with great balanced between hoppy notes and malt; some more fruity ester would have brought this to another level.

Bottle from Stateline. The pour was cloudy golden amber, weak initial head for the style, but respectable. The aroma was full Pacific Northwest hops, bananas, apples. In flavor, this thing drank much like a dIPA (had no idea it wasn’t gonna be like a straight up triple, missed the hybrid intent on the label), strong piney and citrus hops jumping out first with some banana fruity esters behind a full bodied bready presence. A pretty nice sipper even for a summer day, spices (pepper/cloves) a bit too lost / faint behind all the hops, but the hops were quite nice. After the Stone VE08, perhaps I’m starting to enjoy these Am-hopped Trips more and more?

Pours with a slightly cloudy, golden-orange body topped by a thick, off-whtie head with lots of lacing. It’s slightly sweet and malty with a little spice, a nice grassy hop note and a piney, bitter, lasting finish. Meidum bodied, smooth and a touch dry.

Fresh bomber. The pour yields a lightly hazy, medium orange-amber color with a large, foamy, cream colored head. The cap displays good retention, sticking around for the duration, and leaving thick, sticky bands of lace on the glass. The aroma is exactly as described, which is to say a massively hopped tripel. Huge orange, lemon, and pine hop notes play atop a candy sugar malt base and a very Belgian-esque, bready yeast profile. Flavors follow suit, sharp orange, grapefruit and lemon, as well as resinous pine, showing huge hop bitterness, while the sweet candy sugar base tries its best to keep up. The yeast profile is again very bready, but there’s a hefty dose of peppery spice there as well. Medium-full bodied, with balanced carbonation, there is a bit of unfortunate astringency that shows on the finish, but not enough to ruin the experience. Overall, this would-be train wreck avoids enough pitfalls to present itself as a pretty solid blend of two distinct styles. Still, it’s a bit too much tripel for me.

Bottle. Lets see how this Belgian IPA compares to others, as I have not been too big of a fan of them. Poured a vivid gold color with a nice large head. Aroma was good with a nice balance. Belgian yeast, wheat, banana, spice, pepper and earthy hops. Possibly some citrus. I found the flavor better than most in the style. The flavors blended together a bit better. Yeasty, somewhat sweet malt presence with peppery and earthy spice. Finish is pretty solid. Probably the best of this trippel IPA genre that I have had.

On tap, Hamilton’s tavern. starts out belgian, yeasty, candy sugar, ends up dry hoppy. Interesting combination
