Commercial Description:
Le Freak is a modern ale created by converging two beer styles, Belgian Trippel and American Imperial IPA. The use of two yeast strains further marries the styles and American hops give the beer its modern flare.

Bottle shared by a generous soul at the HMoG at the Brick Store. Pours hazy yellow with a small white creamy head that dissipates slowly and leaves a little lacing. The aroma was dominated by light fruits, with pineapples and lemons playing prominently. There was also a big bready malt aroma in the background. The taste follows the nose with the light fruits and bready malt, but there is definitely a bit more spicy Belgian yeast than the aroma. The mouthfeel is smooth but highly carbonated and very crisp in the finish. This is a good Belgian and tough to categorize, but, either way, it’s tasty.

22oz bottle: Pours to an opaque, cloudy medium amber colored body with a medium eggshell colored head that lasts the entire length of drinking the beer (in my case about 20min/glass). The aroma is fruity esters of banana, clove, and peach skin, some sweet light malts, and hints of earthy & flowery hops. The taste is flowery hops and sweet bready malt up front, followed by some more intense spicy & pine bitter hops, a peppery alcohol burn, with some light lemon notes and a hint of sweet, lightly caramelized malt hiding in the background. The finish shows strong retronasal hop scents of grapefruit rind and pine, with residual sweetness in the mouth, almost covered up by the lingering bitterness from the hops. The body on this beer is perfect - medium bodied, medium carbonation, both of which combine with the unfiltered nature of the beer to create a silky, velvety & creamy mouthfeel, while still receiving crispness from the tiny carbonation bubbles created from bottle conditioning. Although the mouthfeel is perfect, I’m not sure I like the blending of these two styles as the hops tends to drown out some of the other flavors.

Amazing. On tap at Newport Pizza. Had good body and decent alcohol content that wasn’t too much but was definitely present. Some bready, yeasty, apple, apricot, orange, and pice notes. Yum. Crazy good on tap.

Bottle from my brother - Vac. Poured amber with a creamy off-white head that renews with a twirl of the glass and left good lace. Clove spice aroma with a backing of fruits and hops. The clove continues in the flavor with a decent malt and hop mix rounding it out. Medium to full body that is sweet up front and bitter in the end. Very nice hybrid.

Bottle from South Bay Drugs. Liquid creates an opaque and hazed glowing yellow with small formation of white heading. My nose detects a wide array of different herbs and spices to hard to individually classify but none the less appetizing and certainly interesting. The flavor is heavily spiced with 100% true Belgian yeast allowing clove, pepper, coriander and mint to be tasted with almost no sign of alcohol so this goes down smooth yet heavy with how much flavor it packs.

Pours a glowing hazy gold amber, creamy big beige head that laces well, stays fairly big. Aromas throw some nice fruity belgian yeast, touch of spice, citrusy hops on the nose of lemon. Different than expected. Initial throws some fruity and belgian yeastiness, a bit estery and throwing down the nice lemony citrus hop bitterness further into the body and fuller/stronger than expected. Finish is dry and bitter, a bit of underlying fruit and belgian yeast. This one is an interesting hybrid, a little strong on the warming feel, but a very good beer overall. Cheers.

Beatiful hazy golden amber with big frothy head. Aroma is spicy yeast with a bit of pineapple sweetness. Taste is fusel alcohol, belgian yeast with big clashing bitterness. This one didn’t work for me...just clashes.

[Bottle] Pours a dark golden color with tons of foamy white head. The aroma was mainly fruity, with a slight touch of yeast as well. A decent amount of citrus initially in the taste. More of a subdued malt presence takes over from there. Sweet malt and spice notes seem to clash with the hops in here. I find this is a common problem with hopped Belgians and weizens.
