Commercial Description:
Le Freak is a modern ale created by converging two beer styles, Belgian Trippel and American Imperial IPA. The use of two yeast strains further marries the styles and American hops give the beer its modern flare.

Bottle. Pours a hazy orange-reddish body with small white head. Aroma is sweet citrus hop. Taste is stiff and orange and citrus hop. The aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Bomber purchased at Rozi’s in Lakewood. Aroma is a blend of fresh aromatic hops, with a slight backing of soft belgian yeast. The flavor is equally as double sided, hoppy at the front but showing a more robust sweat-bready flavor at the end.

body is light amber-gold, slightly hazy. head is very light tan, tall, and frothy/ creamy. aroma is sweet belgian caramel malt & fruity like apricots/peaches/fresh orange peel. faint pine needle hoppy aroma and belgian yeast too. flavor is sweet belgian caramel malt with bitter pithy hop right from the start. a little bit of stone fruit and peppery spice like a trippel, with a weak funk and a bit of alcohol heat. finish/aftertaste is hoppy bitterness. I’m not a fan of hoppy beglians but it’s pretty much exactly what they claim on the label.

My rating was 95% finished and it was lost. To (briefly) sum it up. This is very nice, toasty malt, fruit, and white pepper in the nose. Tropical, light and citrus fruits in the flavor along with some black pepper and honey. Thick mouthfeel but the bitterness and maybe a touch of alcohol makes for a nice finish. Would purchase again. (~1.014 final gravity)

Bottle. Pours hazy gold with a white head. Interesting aroma...typical Belgian yeast aroma with citrus hops blended in. I was excited to try this beer, but for some reason it just didn’t do it for me. It had a weird bitter sour aftertaste that was somewhat tart. Awesome aroma, average flavor.

OK, OK, I must confess that I fell in love with Green Flash after taking a whiff of their West Coast IPA. So, a hoppy tripel? I can deal with that. To me, this beer doesn’t disappoint: the big, grapefruity-lemony aroma is there along with some Belgian yeast. The flavors have a hop-sharpness about them, but nicely wed with the more balanced and estery notes of a tripel. Palate is a bit heavier than other more traditional Belgian Tripels, but it goes nicely with the “bigger” flavor. The finish is significantly hoppy, but how can that be a knock for a hophead like me?

Pours a hazy orangeish brown with a huge off white foamy head and crazy lacing. Aroma of citrus, malts, hops, yeasts, spices. Flavor is bitter and floral yet sweet and hoppy, a little coriander and fruit peeks it’s head through the bitterness though and balances out things rather well in the grand scheme of things.

On tap@O’brien"s: Hazy peach amber color with a small off-white head. Aroma is lightly sweet with a hint of grass and faint bubblegum. Flavor has a spicy citrus start with some candi sugar sweetness in the background then a sharp citrus bite and a lingering grapefruit rind aftertaste. Medium body and creamy with moderate carbonation.
