Le Freak is a modern ale created by converging two beer styles, Belgian Trippel and American Imperial IPA. The use of two yeast strains further marries the styles and American hops give the beer its modern flare.

Bottle from Alko Arkadia, Helsinki. Pours dark amber with a huge frothy head that stays long. Aroma has citrus fruits, floral notes and some yeasty spiciness with an earthy undertone - pretty much what you’d expect from a tripel. Taste, on the other hand, is pretty much what you’d expect from an American Double IPA. It combines sweet maltiness and fruitiness with hop bitterness and flavour, especially citrus. The finish is bitter and dryish with the flavour of grapefruit lingering around. Palate is medium to full bodied, sticky; flat carbonation. An interesting hybrid that’s definitely tilted more towards Imperial IPA than tripel. Delicious and complex beer!

On tap at the Monte Carlo Pub (Las Vegas, NV). Slightly hazy, dark gold/amber body with an average, lasting, white foamy/creamy head. Strong malty/hoppy aroma with honeyish hints. Its robust, complex malty/hoppy taste carries orange, coriander, and woody notes. Ends with a long, warming, bittersweet finish. Very enjoyable.

Pleasant Belgian with a lemony, pepper palate. Quite refreshing with some hits of nuts. This is a good one to sip by the campfire.

Aroma a very nice citrus belgian ale with hoppy notes. Very unique and welcome. Taste of belgian ale throughout with hints of light hops every now and then through the aftertaste. Very interesting and well done.

Draft at their Cellar 3 brewery served in a pint glass; clear amber color with white head. Aroma notes of fruity Belgian yeast, pine/grass hops, some pepper and almost doughy malt. Taste adds more citrus, honey sweetness almost and some Belgian spices. Medium-heavy body, moderate-low carbonation, dry, almost creamy with lingering pine/spice finish. Some depth of a tripel but very much a DIPA, very good.
