Le Freak is a modern ale created by converging two beer styles, Belgian Trippel and American Imperial IPA. The use of two yeast strains further marries the styles and American hops give the beer its modern flare.

22oz split served in a SN IPA Glass A - Pale golden body with a big fluffy white head, nice retention and lacing throughout. S - Belgian yeast, bananas, bubblegum, spicy, black pepper, cloves, spices, some honey an floral notes come out when warmed up. T - Follows the nose with spicy yeast wrapped in aggressive hops. Strong undercurrent of fruit, bananas, apples, and pears, spiciness continues with clove and pepper, some honey floral and grapefruit rind toward the back end. Super dry on the finish. M - Medium body with semi-fine carbonation, very dry on the finish. A very complex mix of flavors. Awesome Belgian yeast with good use of hops. This packs a punch in all ways but keeps itís balance. Very nice. Serving type: bottle 04-18-2013

Bottle from BarleyWine, CPH - golden pour with white head. Fruity and yeasty aroma and taste, grassy and floral hoppy nuances throughout, some light fruity spice towards a dry finish. Decent brew.

750ml bottle. No bottle date on label. Appearance: Golden, slight haze, and moderate off white foam head. Aroma: Belgian yeast aroma dominates, with strong banana, pear, and clove. Also pick up a light grassy, citrus hop aroma. Aroma leans more heavily toward a tripel than IIPA. Taste: Starts with a soft malt sweetness and fruity clove character of a tripel, then transforms into a really strong hop bitterness that immediately stops the fruitiness. Tastes like two completely seperate beers that came together in one. Mouthfeel: medium body with moderate to high carbonation. Finish: Dry with a strong lingering bitterness. Fruity yeast retronasal aroma. Overall: A robust, strong, bitter ale that is surprisingly easy drinking. Beautiful aroma lends it to the combo of the desired styles. If I could recommend one change it would be to back down the bitterness a few notches to let the yeast shine more in the taste and finish. Once that bitterness kicks in it overrides all the other flavors that make this a great hybrid.

You can taste the Belgian malts, but then a California hoppy ipa permeates the finish. Two fingered head, sweet floral and refreshing.

On tap at RiRa. Hazy deep amber with a generous white head that leaves tight lace. Prominent citrus and light bread toffee with some pepper. Medium slick mouth with average carbonation and a lingering dry finish.

2/7/15 from bomber at PubRepublic. Hazy (bottle conditioned) Amber orange color with on finger head. Pleasant smell unlike any IPA I've had. Taste was fruity and a bit malty slight bitter aftertaste. Very good but unusual. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nose is heavy on the tripel, very yeasty, bubblegum, banana, apricot, a bit of lemon. Appearance is that brilliant glowing orange with thick head, thick retention, small bubbles. Magnificent looking. Silky smooth, more bubble gum in the palate, dry, funky palate. The palate does marry the styles nicely. I might put a few bottles of this away. Very nice.
