Palate Wrecker was originally brewed for the Hamilton’s Tavern 2nd Anniversary celebration. It’s the most complicated West Coast–inspired IPA we have ever brewed—mashing and sparging with hopped wort, in addition to our hop layering regimen for IPA. We use almost 6 lbs/bbl of Columbus and Centennial hops to create this very bitter hop monster (tested at 149 IBU and no extracts in case you were wondering). By popular demand, it is now released for the world to enjoy (even though this beer isn’t for everyone, only the real hop heads!!!). Cheers! - Chuck Silva - Brewmaster - Green Flash Brewing

UPDATED: APR 21, 2012 12 oz bottle from Bev4less. Pours a translucent copper color with a small off-white head that has fair retention. The aroma is big and bold with grapefruit, sweat and resins. The flavor, like the aroma, is a big blast of bitter hops; lots of grapefruit, lime, resins and salt. The malt base is fairly neutral with some pine nuts and a trace of toffee. The palate is full and smooth with lively carbonation. Overall: This one lives up to its name, it really is a palate wrecker, one of the most bitter brews i can remember drinking that was still enjoyable. Fans of intensely bitter brews will wanna get their hands on this, all others should avoid.

Well, I guess I’m gonna just pass out from fatigue sometime soon, so this is a good one to end the evening with, especially since I’ve been on a hop binge ever since fall and the concept of a palate stripping hop bomb is appealing right bow. This better live up to its name. I hope it hurts. 12 ounce bottle from Beer Run. I used to say Beer Run in Charlottesville, but there really is only one Beer Run (other than the cheap imitators), so no city modifier is needed. Pours a clear copper color with a large frothy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of resiny hops with some floral, leafy and tropical notes. The taste is pretty bitter citrus and resin hops. Faint tropical notes as well as some toffeeish malts. Medium bodied with a strong lingering bitterness. Nice beer. It could be a little more bitter, but it is a nice strong hop bomb. Maybe one of these days I will return to be a proud Easterner who actually appreciates hoppy beers with balance, but for now I’ll embrace the skullduggery and this beer will do quite nicely.

Caramel aroma, very little citrus. Strong bitterness that overwhelms any other flavors. Little to no grain or malt flavors. Ok beer but way over-hopped.

On tap at Smoke and Barrel. Clear amber pour with a lively white froth. Big piney resin and orange grapefruit notes, with hints of caramel in the background. Sappy palate with a smacking citrus finish.

12oz bottle. Rating #108. Clear dark golden/orange with a big fluffy white head that left some real good lacing. Tropical grapefruit aroma with a little sweetness. Pretty decent bitterness, more grapefruit and more sweetness. Nice stuff. (2249)

12 oz. bottle from Grape & Gourmet (listed as 9.5% on the bottle). Pours dark orange with a two finger thick off-white head. Aroma of pine resin, wet grass, and hints of grapefruit rind. Wonderful flavor of bitter grapefruit, pine, and just a touch of pineapple. Some noticeable alcohol on the back end of this one. This is a wonderful beer.

Pours clear dark orange with a quickly dissipating head. Aroma is bright and citrusy with a touch of pine. Flavor lives up to its name as a palate wrecker. Massively piney with a grapefruit and tropical fruit backdrop. Totally unbalanced and I love it.

On draft at The Abbey in Seal Beach.... Aroma of floral and herbal hops.... Flavor is grassy and bitter, like chewing on hops, overwhelmes the palate.... Finish is bitter piney hops... Pretty solid beer if you are obsessed with hops, could use a little more balance

Draught at Smoke and Barrel in DC. Classic IPA amber/copper pour, small to medium fizzy head. Nose and flavor hold green onion, orange zest, wet lemongrass, touches of chinotto and scallion. Palatable, not too smooth for a DIPA (as one might expect from these guys). Quite nice!
