COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Palate Wrecker was originally brewed for the Hamilton’s Tavern 2nd Anniversary celebration. It’s the most complicated West Coast–inspired IPA we have ever brewed—mashing and sparging with hopped wort, in addition to our hop layering regimen for IPA. We use almost 6 lbs/bbl of Columbus and Centennial hops to create this very bitter hop monster (tested at 149 IBU and no extracts in case you were wondering). By popular demand, it is now released for the world to enjoy (even though this beer isn’t for everyone, only the real hop heads!!!). Cheers! - Chuck Silva - Brewmaster - Green Flash Brewing

On tap at Oblivion Taproom in Orlando. Pours a dark orange with an off white head and sweet hop and citrus filled aroma. Taste is massive hop bitterness up front with citrus and grapefruit notes with an equally bitter, long finish. Great DIPA, tons of hoppy bitterness

On tap at Oblivion Taproom, Orlando, pours a reddish orange color with a small head. Nose is intense hops and citrus and sweet. Taste is massively bittersweet with sting citrus and pine, full of taste and flavor. Finish is long and bitter, but ends beautifully. Quaff Score 8 / 10

A steady pour into my New Belgium Globe glass produces an almost three-finger thick, pale tan colored head. The beer is a bright, red-copper color that shows a brilliantly clear, bright copper hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells of concentrated, fruity hops, slightly resinous, and with backing, toasted, caramelized, crystal malt notes. Specific notes of tangerine zest, woody pine, some weed-like / grassy notes, lots of lychee, and lush, tropical fruit / floral notes. The malt character is clearly a supporting role in the aroma, and in fact gets subsumed underneath the hop onslaught pretty quickly.

Nicely bitter up front with accentuating herbal notes; both of these continue through to the finish. The herbal and pine like hop character, along with the bitterness, is larger than the fruit character in the flavor, which is the opposite of what it was in the aroma; flavors of bitter herbs, hemp oils, rosemary, lingering woody-menthol, and woody-pepper notes are all noticeable. The fruit-hop notes play a supporting role in the flavor, but do contribute some noticeable flavors of lychee, tangelo zest, candied grapefruit zest (lingers at times in the finish), essential citrus oils, and some floral peach notes. The body of this beer is definitely fairly viscous, it has a medium quality to it, and the beer is certainly a sipping brew; it is not overly heavy though, but is on the dense side for my preferred type of Double IPA. As the beer warms up the hop fruit character becomes more rich with flavors of guava, peach syrup, and some mango even. The alcohol can get a bit hot at times as the beer warms up, though it can’t compete with the juicy hop character.

Substantially bitter and dank, but it is funny how much my palate has adjusted to monster hop bombs like this. Just earlier today I was thinking back to the first Sierra Nevada Pale Ale that I had in the 90s, it blew me away how bitter and hoppy that beer was, this beer is in a whole other league though, but my palate at this point can no longer recognize that. Definitely a beer for the aggressive hop lover; self-flagellating, scathing, abrasive, a definite palate wrecker indeed.

Chestnut brown with a half inch of white head. Aroma is super citrusy with sweet grapefruit. Taste is the same, but contains all the pith. It’s very much like consuming a booze-soaked grapefruit. $4/12oz

Pours a hazy copper orange color with a frothy lacing head that sticks around for a good length of the beer. The nose is hop heavy citrus with sweet caramel notes holding their own. The palate is big juicy and hop forward but the malt sweetness keeps the bitterness in check. Big grapefruit, tangerine and peach flavors lead into a round sweet caramel mid palate that slowly fades into the bitter sappy pine abyss that lingers on and on....
