COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Palate Wrecker was originally brewed for the Hamilton’s Tavern 2nd Anniversary celebration. It’s the most complicated West Coast–inspired IPA we have ever brewed—mashing and sparging with hopped wort, in addition to our hop layering regimen for IPA. We use almost 6 lbs/bbl of Columbus and Centennial hops to create this very bitter hop monster (tested at 149 IBU and no extracts in case you were wondering). By popular demand, it is now released for the world to enjoy (even though this beer isn’t for everyone, only the real hop heads!!!). Cheers! - Chuck Silva - Brewmaster - Green Flash Brewing

354 ml./12 fl. oz. bottle poured in to a snifter. Deep copper colour with a medium sized off-white head, that fades to a bubbly cap. Fruity aroma - a bit subdued - with grapefruit, pines, citrus hops and chocolate malts. Taste is sweet. Full body with an oily texture. Finishes long lasting with a good, heavy bitterness, light alcohol and chocolate malts. Excellent beer for the hop heads, lacks a little bit aroma to be really good however, still recommended.

Bottle from Vinmonopolet, Valkendorfgaten, Bergen. Pours cloudy dark golden with a huge frothy beige head. Aroma is powerful grapefruit, some peach. Taste is almost smooth, full bodied, piney and resiny hops, far from shy, also some moderate sweet malts lurking in the background. Not a palate wrecker for me, more dry and hoppy delicious.

Bottle from Vika enjoyed at home
Copper hazy, beige head. Smells of grapefruit, citrus zests, pine, caramel and malts. Medium sweet, some malts, some fruityness. Heavy heavy bitter, alot of resins, pine and wood. Medium body, light oily texture, soft carbonation. Typical what i call west coast iipa, well hopped for sure. Still, i have to say i must question the name Palate Wrecker.... because i don’t get that.. Still, nice hops, nice malt backbone and totally a very nice beer

THOUGHTS: Wow. The first beer in a while that really surprised me with its bitterness. So much bitterness, but it still remained balanced. Excellent transition. It was like eating a grapefruit with sugar and then chewing on the rind. The lacing almost painted the continents around the globe of the snifter. Hid alcohol fairly well. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, light amber with an average, off-white head that mostly diminished and left excellent lacing. The aroma had light to moderate caramel and plain old sugar; heavy grapefruit, citrus, blood orange, and grapefruit rind hops; moderate tropical fruit and orange hops; and when warmer slight resin hops; and light alcohol. The initial flavor was moderate to heavily sweet and bitter; while the finish was heavily sweet, heavily to nearly harshly bitter and moderately acidic with a very long duration. There was slight caramel, sugar, grapefruit rind, slight resinous hops, and light tropical fruit hops.

Aroma of a fresh hop cone rolled in your hands with a touch of maltiness. Very thick, oily, citrus flavors with a high amount of bitterness, very slight alcohol presence late. Oiliness just lays on the lips which is a bit of a downfall. Excesses of almost everything except crispness as the oily residue wipes that out...... a solid double IPA but not completely enjoyable more than once.

Poured from a bottle into a snifter at the Lockview in Akron, OH on 06/04/12. A: Almost a red-orange color. Much darker than a traditional IPA that I’m used to. S: dull, leafy hops smell. Nothing to write home about with the scent. T: mild hop taste. Surprisingly good taste considering the dull smell. M: you cannot tell that this beer is 9.5% ABV when you drink it. I could easily drink a couple of these. Quite easy on the palate. O: I enjoyed trying this beer. Would get it again.

12fl. oz. bottle from Bierkompass.de. Poured hazy orange colored with a frothy, bubbly white head. Aroma is very hoppy, pine, caramel, herbal notes. Intensely hoppy flavor, pine, exotic fruits, some sweet maltiness as well, toffee or caramel. Oily, slightly chewy mouthfeel. The finish is very bitter, mouthdrying, fruity. Truly a palate wrecker. Great DIPA, you don´t notice the ABV here at all.

Bottle. Light amber/orange, nice frothy head. Nose is massively piney-hoppy, with some citrus and floral tones. And underneat that, there’s a good caramel/vanilla "compressed" (a bit burnt) maltyness. Body is soft and almost creamy. Bitter, with plenty of piney flavors, some breadyness, caramel, apricots. A bit of a bitter / alcoholic finish. This is exactly what a IIPA should be like. Massively hopped, bitter, full of dark/murky/compressed caramel maltyness. I would have been ok with this not being just as bitter as it is. But on the other hand, then it might have been too hot.

Bottle. Pours deep golden with a small off-white head. Aroma of peachy hops, citrus, malt and grass. Flavor is sweet and bitter with a lot of peachy hops and some malty notes. Medium to full body, soft carbonation.
