Palate Wrecker was originally brewed for the Hamiltonís Tavern 2nd Anniversary celebration. Itís the most complicated West CoastĖinspired IPA we have ever brewedómashing and sparging with hopped wort, in addition to our hop layering regimen for IPA. We use almost 6 lbs/bbl of Columbus and Centennial hops to create this very bitter hop monster (tested at 149 IBU and no extracts in case you were wondering). By popular demand, it is now released for the world to enjoy (even though this beer isnít for everyone, only the real hop heads!!!). Cheers! - Chuck Silva - Brewmaster - Green Flash Brewing

355ml bottle. Clear dark orangey golden colour with average, firm, frothy to creamy, moderately lacing, off-white head. Hoppy aroma with piney resin notes, grapefruit, tangerine. Taste is sweaty, cheesy, malty, some resin, pine, bitter hop throughout.

Bottle (355 ml) from bierkompass.de. CLear amber, medium white head. Wonderful fresh hop aroma with peaches, apricots, tangerines, some perfumy and piney notes. Medium bodied, medium carbonation. Dry with massive clean bitterness.

Palate Wrecker huh? Interesting beer in that it shows how hoppy a beer can get. Aroma is hops, hops and hops, like opening a sachet of hops to pitch in to a brew, except this is after the full process. That is impressive. Flavour wise, it is exactly like one would expect, an overwhelming amount of hops, there is some malt in there, but not what you would call a well balanced act. Interesting, but starts to get a bit like pine-o-clean with the amount of hops here.

The aroma is fruit and hoppy, some citrus, almost sweet. The flavor is full-on hoppiness: very bitter, dry, mouth-watering, some alcohol burn at the end. However, this bitterness is still balanced by fruity sweetness. I would not have believed it beforehand, but the name of this beer certainly is apt. This might be a good night-ender, or you would need a long pause before the next beer. I donít know how theoretical IBUís translate to a real sensation, but this was more bitter than Mikkeller 1000 IBU. Palate Wrecker is a very nice beer, if you like very hoppy beers.

Pours golden. Not a lot of scent to it, some hop. Aromas are quite hidden as well. Hop, floral and actually quite a lot of malt. Some bitterness, but I suspect a lot of itís advertised IBUs are hidden by loads of malt sweetness. Quite thin mouth feel, for an IIPA. Ok, but I didnít quite get it. Note that Iím from Norway, I guess that this one is better enjoyed fresh.

355ml bottle from Vinmonopolet Vika. White tophead, near-clear amber coloured body. Fragile lacing. Smell of pine, sweet malts and dusty hops. Well blended flavour of succulent hops and dried fruits with emphasis on apricot. Malt bitter ending. Full bodied. Excellent night sipper (hotel room, Oslo 15.09.2012).

354 ml./12 fl. oz. bottle poured in to a snifter. Deep copper colour with a medium sized off-white head, that fades to a bubbly cap. Fruity aroma - a bit subdued - with grapefruit, pines, citrus hops and chocolate malts. Taste is sweet. Full body with an oily texture. Finishes long lasting with a good, heavy bitterness, light alcohol and chocolate malts. Excellent beer for the hop heads, lacks a little bit aroma to be really good however, still recommended.

Bottle from Vinmonopolet, Valkendorfgaten, Bergen. Pours cloudy dark golden with a huge frothy beige head. Aroma is powerful grapefruit, some peach. Taste is almost smooth, full bodied, piney and resiny hops, far from shy, also some moderate sweet malts lurking in the background. Not a palate wrecker for me, more dry and hoppy delicious.

Bottle from Vika enjoyed at home
Copper hazy, beige head. Smells of grapefruit, citrus zests, pine, caramel and malts. Medium sweet, some malts, some fruityness. Heavy heavy bitter, alot of resins, pine and wood. Medium body, light oily texture, soft carbonation. Typical what i call west coast iipa, well hopped for sure. Still, i have to say i must question the name Palate Wrecker.... because i donít get that.. Still, nice hops, nice malt backbone and totally a very nice beer

THOUGHTS: Wow. The first beer in a while that really surprised me with its bitterness. So much bitterness, but it still remained balanced. Excellent transition. It was like eating a grapefruit with sugar and then chewing on the rind. The lacing almost painted the continents around the globe of the snifter. Hid alcohol fairly well. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, light amber with an average, off-white head that mostly diminished and left excellent lacing. The aroma had light to moderate caramel and plain old sugar; heavy grapefruit, citrus, blood orange, and grapefruit rind hops; moderate tropical fruit and orange hops; and when warmer slight resin hops; and light alcohol. The initial flavor was moderate to heavily sweet and bitter; while the finish was heavily sweet, heavily to nearly harshly bitter and moderately acidic with a very long duration. There was slight caramel, sugar, grapefruit rind, slight resinous hops, and light tropical fruit hops.
