Palate Wrecker was originally brewed for the Hamilton’s Tavern 2nd Anniversary celebration. It’s the most complicated West Coast–inspired IPA we have ever brewed—mashing and sparging with hopped wort, in addition to our hop layering regimen for IPA. We use almost 6 lbs/bbl of Columbus and Centennial hops to create this very bitter hop monster (tested at 149 IBU and no extracts in case you were wondering). By popular demand, it is now released for the world to enjoy (even though this beer isn’t for everyone, only the real hop heads!!!). Cheers! - Chuck Silva - Brewmaster - Green Flash Brewing

Poured from a bottle into a snifter at the Lockview in Akron, OH on 06/04/12. A: Almost a red-orange color. Much darker than a traditional IPA that I’m used to. S: dull, leafy hops smell. Nothing to write home about with the scent. T: mild hop taste. Surprisingly good taste considering the dull smell. M: you cannot tell that this beer is 9.5% ABV when you drink it. I could easily drink a couple of these. Quite easy on the palate. O: I enjoyed trying this beer. Would get it again.

12fl. oz. bottle from Bierkompass.de. Poured hazy orange colored with a frothy, bubbly white head. Aroma is very hoppy, pine, caramel, herbal notes. Intensely hoppy flavor, pine, exotic fruits, some sweet maltiness as well, toffee or caramel. Oily, slightly chewy mouthfeel. The finish is very bitter, mouthdrying, fruity. Truly a palate wrecker. Great DIPA, you don´t notice the ABV here at all.

Bottle. Light amber/orange, nice frothy head. Nose is massively piney-hoppy, with some citrus and floral tones. And underneat that, there’s a good caramel/vanilla "compressed" (a bit burnt) maltyness. Body is soft and almost creamy. Bitter, with plenty of piney flavors, some breadyness, caramel, apricots. A bit of a bitter / alcoholic finish. This is exactly what a IIPA should be like. Massively hopped, bitter, full of dark/murky/compressed caramel maltyness. I would have been ok with this not being just as bitter as it is. But on the other hand, then it might have been too hot.

Bottle. Pours deep golden with a small off-white head. Aroma of peachy hops, citrus, malt and grass. Flavor is sweet and bitter with a lot of peachy hops and some malty notes. Medium to full body, soft carbonation.

Bottle. It’s a hazy, dark golden beer topped by a dense, finger-thick off-white to beige head. Lots of hops in the aroma, green pine cones, resins and citrus peel, and also a touch of maltyness. The flavor has a pleasant underlying malty sweetness, and up front there’s hops, some more hops and even more hops. A nice bitterness, grass hints and lots of resins and citrus zest. Lasting finish. Pleasant indeed, sure wouldn’t mind having more of this. 120915

4/IX/2012 12 FL. Oz. bottle De Hopduvel (Gent) @ Klaas’ place - BB: n/a (2012-1007) Thanks to Klaas for sharing the bottle!

clear orange beer, big creamy yellowish head with some irregular bubbles, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: lots of passion fruits, pineapple, resin, some flowers, sugar, honey. MF: soft carbon, full body, bit syrupy texture. Taste: citrus first, grapefruit, passion fruit, pineapple, sweet malts, honey, resin, very bitter hops. Aftertaste: grapefruit, very bitter ending, by chemical, still very fruity, dry and bitter. Amazingly balanced.

Dark gold. Slight lacing. Slight piney grassy almost soapy. Big gravity little boozy. Nice carbonation and mouthfeel. Lingering strong bitterness. Maybe a bit to warm. Unbalanced. Simple just a lot of IBU. Worth a try but not one to return too. ---That dog will hunt!
