Palate Wrecker was originally brewed for the Hamilton’s Tavern 2nd Anniversary celebration. It’s the most complicated West Coast–inspired IPA we have ever brewed—mashing and sparging with hopped wort, in addition to our hop layering regimen for IPA. We use almost 6 lbs/bbl of Columbus and Centennial hops to create this very bitter hop monster (tested at 149 IBU and no extracts in case you were wondering). By popular demand, it is now released for the world to enjoy (even though this beer isn’t for everyone, only the real hop heads!!!). Cheers! - Chuck Silva - Brewmaster - Green Flash Brewing

Pours an orange-amber with a frothy beige head and sticky lace. The nose is a huge punch of grapefruit and blood orange with just enough caramel malt in the background to realize I’m not just smelling hop cones. Medium to full-bodied with a solid, tongue-squeezing bitterness. The flavor follows the nose and the name with a huge slap of critic, resinous hops that linger as though I’m sucking on hop pellets. There’s enough malt backing to keep it from becoming puckeringly bitter, but don’t even think about including this beer in a flight or tasting session, unless you place it dead last in the session. If you don’t, you won’t be able to taste any of the other beers after this one. While a hop head’s delight, this is one over-the-top beer. I must try pairing this with Thai-hot take out. That’s pretty much the only thing I can think of that could stand up to this beer.

Pours a dark golden color with minimal head. Nice and hoppy with grapefruit/floral notes and a lingering bitterness. The body is lighter than some other DIPAs and the alcohol is rather subdued considering the 9.5% ABV. A very nice DIPA.

Has some killer floral hop scents and has a nice white head on the golden beer. The taste is nice up front but slowly fades into a bitter that lingers a bit too much, has a slight metallic taste I don’t care for as well.

355ml bottle. Pours a hazy deep golden amber, with a moderate off-white head which lasts well and leaves decent lace. Tropical hops aromas of mango and pineapple blend with grapefruit and burnt caramel malt on the nose. Pineapple notes sit on a base of potently bitter grapefruit up front. There is some burnt caramel and toffee malt, with mango hops and a touch of chilli powder coming in to the mid-palate. Bitter pineapple and mango hops come through in the finish, and there is a lingering bitterness. Mercifully, my palate seems not to have been wrecked by this beer, which allows me to continue enjoying it! A nice, potent imperial IPA.

22oz bottle. Wow, this is big and gorgeous. Copper and golden, lacy white head. Big pine, foresty, fresh cut trees. Resin, chalk, big. Alc balance. Great, perfectly touching that upper limit (for me) on heavy hops. Wonderful

Pours a clear ruby red with a miniscule head. Half-decent lacing. Disturbing piney nose, punctuated with circus peanut and cilantro. Off-putting earthy flavor, and I also get some baking soda and banana. Rather light and fizzy mouthfeel and long finish.

Into a snifter at just on cool. Orange copper and just shy of bright. Carbonation is lean, intermittent and it settles out virtually headless. All hop nose; lots of camphor, pine needles and pinewood, sap resin, vine clippings, lemon grass and grapefruit. To be honest it just reminds me of a mix between Mortein™ insect spray and a pine scented Little Tree™ car air freshener. Rather light on the palate, very dry, grassy and weedy. Camphorous and piney in back and into the swallow. Subdued sweetness upfront; low to no malt or yeast notes. Alcohol is well masked being a positive. Drawing and acidic fruit esters rip at the palate. A hint of grapefruit, Bay leaf and eucalypt linger long between sips with all the other hop chaotics. A hop ‘BOMB’ and little else. Doesn’t really showcase the hops it used so blatantly. Average! (new batch, 12fl.Oz, no date stamp, Cellarbrations Carlisle)

Tap. Pours a nice orange color with a white head. Aroma is filled with grapefruit, some pine, orange and some pineapple. The flavor follows the nose, lots of grapefruit and pine, some sweet malts, orange and pineapple. The body is medium with a dry mouth feel. Overall a good DIPA, but not as intense as I thought, compared to something like Mikkeller 1000 IBU Ultramate.

Pours a rustic orange with a 2f off-white head. Notes of mango, pine, and citrus. Full and a touch of creaminess with a dry bitter finish. Aptly named as it quickly wears out the taste buds. Aroma is nice, but the taste can get brutal halfway through. Probably not something I would have again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Crazy shaped, 12oz "Green Flash" bottle. Pours clear, amber color, tall white fizz. Aroma of hops. Loads of florals, citrus, some spruce. Earthy resin scent with some grass. Soft on the palate. Creamy texture. A large amount of hop oils coat the tongue, gentle resin of hops flavor. I can see how delicately layered the hop additions were done while making this beer. Hopefully all of these hops that were used will aid in putting me to sleep tonight, hops have a calming effect on me. All layered on a simple yet hearty malt backbone. (3369)
