COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Palate Wrecker was originally brewed for the Hamilton’s Tavern 2nd Anniversary celebration. It’s the most complicated West Coast–inspired IPA we have ever brewed—mashing and sparging with hopped wort, in addition to our hop layering regimen for IPA. We use almost 6 lbs/bbl of Columbus and Centennial hops to create this very bitter hop monster (tested at 149 IBU and no extracts in case you were wondering). By popular demand, it is now released for the world to enjoy (even though this beer isn’t for everyone, only the real hop heads!!!). Cheers! - Chuck Silva - Brewmaster - Green Flash Brewing

Bottle. Pours out an orange color with a white head on it. Smell is plenty of pine, grapefruit, citrus, and an overload of hops. Very easy to drink yet plenty sticky. Not much alcohol noted. In terms of a "palate wrecker" it is really not. We drank a Sculpin before this one and that was more of a "palate wrecker." This was still a good beer, but all in all I would just drink West Coast IPA.

Tried of tap in Melbourne and from stubbies here in Perth. Thought it was very bitter when tried from the tap and believed the name was quite appropriate, also tried it first up and thought I should have left till towards the end of the session but what the hell. Now back in Perth it almost my staff drink to go home with otherwise it would be the West Coast IPA. Great bitterness and good hop flavour.

Draft to a goblet Strong grapefruit aroma as expected but I couldn't get anything else. It pours a clear amber with a nice head and great lacing. This has maximum bitterness which gets stronger and stronger. If you wait a bit before having another sip, you get a burning feeling at the back of your tongue and throat.

Bottle. Fragrant, can smell the hops from across the room. Upon closer examination, it is piney, sweet floral and spruce. At 149 IBU, I think I have found my hop limit finally! As you would expect this hop bomb is bitter to the core, the alcohol hits you about 2 minutes after a sip. This is a specialty brew for sure and not one I would take on a hike.

Draught. Pours a medium gold, white head. Hoppy, spicy, resiny aroma, grapefruit, spruce, mango, apricot. Off-dry, medium to full bodied, high bitterness, balanced CO2. Hoppy, spicy taste, apricot, spruce, resin, malt, passion fruit, mango, grapefruit. Very tasty. (2012-04-30)

Clear golden orange with a thick head. Aroma of pine, citrus, wood, resin, grass. Taste is bitter, lots of pine resin, woody, citrus rind.

As anticipated, this beer is too bitter (no $hit Sherlock). Pours dark orange/red. The aroma is a blissful citrus salad with sugary syrupy subtleties. The flavour is a wallop of hops which would almost be bearable if it weren’t for the overpowering bittering hops. Flavoring hops are spot on.

Strong green hop aroma, golden ale with superior lacing and flavor may ruin your palette to sample other beers but when drinking it synced me for an ultra hoppy 2XIPA. Thorough hop and strong bitterness are what this beer is all about.

Pours a clear dark copper with a lasting white head. Great lacing. Aroma is earthy, resinous, piney, grass, and some apricot. Taste is piney resinous hops with caramel sweetness on the back end. Great bitterness. Very good.

Very pleased with this beer. There are definitely some more palate wrecking beers than this one, but it’s a satisfying experience. Not surprisingly the hops are big and upfront. Mouth coating and the bitterness lasts and lasts. The malt profile is very nice. Mostly dry and a bit spicy. Glad they kept too much sweetness out of this beer. Very satisfying. 2nd best beer of the night.
