COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Palate Wrecker was originally brewed for the Hamilton’s Tavern 2nd Anniversary celebration. It’s the most complicated West Coast–inspired IPA we have ever brewed—mashing and sparging with hopped wort, in addition to our hop layering regimen for IPA. We use almost 6 lbs/bbl of Columbus and Centennial hops to create this very bitter hop monster (tested at 149 IBU and no extracts in case you were wondering). By popular demand, it is now released for the world to enjoy (even though this beer isn’t for everyone, only the real hop heads!!!). Cheers! - Chuck Silva - Brewmaster - Green Flash Brewing

It's a bitter IPA. Good if that's your thing although doesn't last on the palate as long as Ruination or others. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

13.11.2014. 0,355l Bottle. Dark amber brown colour with white head. Unclear. Very strong with lots of bitter flavours. Its so strong that the malt dissapairs. Rich body and lots of alcohol hidden behind large amounts of hops! Notes of spruce, pine and juniperus. There is also grass and some kind of herbs. Good!!

Mooie oranje honing kleur met een mooie kraag. Ruikt fruitig, hop, honing. Goede bitterzoete geur. Smaakt vol bitter, fruitig, honing, tikkeltje zoet, grapefruit. Goede bittere nasmaak. Lekker.

Tasted at Willow Park Beer Bash 2014. Unfortunately, there was no time for detailed notes - and I only made it through half my list even so!

12oz bottle - This isn’t anything tiny or small about this beer. They boys at Green Flash really cranked the dial up to 11 on this one, and for me it kinda strayed a bit from what makes GF one of my favorite CA brewers. Pushing the envelope is what American brewers do well, and while DIPA’s are now about as extreme as a cream ale, brewers that excel at making great DIPA’s are far and few. So for me the thing that was a bit unexpected is the malt backbone in this. Gone is the classic GF hop assault, but replacing that is a much more balanced profile, a lot more sweetness showing up and while the hops still reach out and punch your palate around a bit, it’s more like an exhibition fight, and not a full 15-round assault. Aroma starts out rather catty, with some pine needles/sap, lemon zests and lots and lots of toasted sweet malt. There are lots and lots of hoppy notes in the aroma but the malts are there and they don’t back down. Juicy hop resin found easily in the palate, but the amount of malts here approach American barleywine territory. The 2nd bottle really shows me some of the earthy aspects of the beer, almost like the things been aged in an oak barrel. The tannins found here help offset some of the hops. I know, I know...a balanced DIPA isn’t the end of the world and you won’t find an argument here to say otherwise. But I love my DIPA’s to have a sharp focus on hops and this one strays from that approach. A great, highly enjoyable beer, all things considered.

From the bottle...an IPA with a strong hoppy flavor, not overbearing but I personally do not care For an IPA

UPDATED: DEC 20, 2014 This beer which led to me trying the reformulation of west coast IPA is the reason I keep trying new beers. Too many were getting too juicy and too tropical. This is closer to a barleywine imo but it can also be a unique double IPA I guess. Traditional west coast hop pine citrus dankness are combine with a toffee malt background strong in the profile. The hops totally prevailed yet the balance is there. A heavy presence of bothThe alcohol is well hid but the thick flavors of this beer it!s a sipper. Though one may be able to sip many. 12/20/14 - the last rating was on a bottle three months old. I just had this years release fresh, and I feel it deserves the same rating, but fresh the aroma is through the roof. The malt is not as forward and this is more imperial Ipa territory than the barleywine it seemed to be approaching. Not sure if this years is just different or if this beer can change that much over 90 days.

Pours from 12 oz bottle a dark amber with off-white head. Aroma of strong sticky hop resin, grass, pine, and bitter grapefruit. Taste is -- not surprisingly -- more strong hop flavors: big bitter grapefruit, sticky pine/resin, spicy hops and field grass. Well made and delicious DIPA, once again GF does it.
