COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
If Green Flash were founded in historical Belgium, Rayon Vert would have been our flagship brew. A bold layering of hops finds balance from traditional malts. Bottle conditioning with fresh ale yeast and Brettanomyces finishes the beer, adding a delightful effervescence, dryness and continuously evolving character. Rayon Vert is Green Flash.

   AROMA 8/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 7/10   PALATE 4/5   OVERALL 14/20
Gregis (1281) - Shawnee, Kansas, USA - MAY 27, 2012
Pours into a towering, loose, fluffy, off-white head that takes its time receding into a hazy amber-orange body. The nose is a blend of dry Brettiness and light, fruity yeast notes (pear and apple). Also present is a distinct vinyl note that is a surprisingly pleasant addition to the medley. Once the head dissipates, however, the vinyl note nearly disappears and the aroma becomes more integrated with a touch of spice added to the mix. The palate is light to medium-bodied with soft, fine carbonation and a drying, somewhat tart and moderately funky/sour (good funk) finish. The flavor is less fruity than the nose, with the Brett dominating the flavor profile: horse blanket funk and a mild white pepper note take front stage over a pale malt back that just hints at the apple and pear notes found in the aroma. Quite drying and funky with additional phantom notes of leather and peach pit dancing in and out of focus. This is the kind of beer that could simultaneously scare craft beer newbies away from "Belgian-Style" Pale Ales and make Brett fans hear "Ode to Joy" in their heads. I lie somewhere between those two groups. I enjoy the nuances that it possesses but I would have preferred it have dialed-in closer to where the nose is at this point. This is definitely an interesting beer, and if Brett is your thing, this is a good candidate to cellar and crack one every 3-6 months to see how it evolves.

Vignale (2112) - Malmö, SWEDEN - MAY 27, 2012
Pours amber with big foaming head. Lots of brett on the nose with typical wood and stable notes. Not as tart as expected pr as I wood have wish, but a little to medium bitterness and dry finish makes it really drinkable anyway. A bit of herbs, but not the bitter ones, stable and wood. Good!

12oz bottle. Pours a hazy copper amber with a big rocky off-white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is bready malts with spicy earthy yeasty notes and a touch of brett as it warms.

The flavor is subdued - watery earthy malts and a little fruit with spicy floral hops that linger in the aftertaste. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and watery with lots of sharp carbonation.

Overall, I haven’t really liked the Belgian IPAs, and this is not a great rendition of one (watery, subdued). I didn’t pick up much brett - a little came out as it warmed.

Excellent Orval clone. Intense perfume and orange nose. Balance of sweetness and spice on the palate. Only knocking it down a few points because it’s a clone. But brilliant 6 pack

UPDATED: JUN 9, 2012 Deep copper/amber body, large fluffy off-white head, good sheet-like lacing. Bretty, to say the least. Wet hay, must, light citrus, wheat, and pale malts dominate both the flavor and the nose. Medium bodied, easy to drink with a nice effervescent carbonation. A very interesting beer that does suggest Orval -- although not exactly a clone. Should be interesting to see how this progresses with time in the cellar.
