If Green Flash were founded in historical Belgium, Rayon Vert would have been our flagship brew. A bold layering of hops finds balance from traditional malts. Bottle conditioning with fresh ale yeast and Brettanomyces finishes the beer, adding a delightful effervescence, dryness and continuously evolving character. Rayon Vert is Green Flash.

UPDATED: AUG 25, 2012 Pours hazy orange with a bit much of the off white fizz. Aromas are mild with a grainy caramel and pale malt Belgian character. The taste is smooth, grainy, and it has a traditional Belgian pale malt and yeast taste that works very well with the mild wet hay and flowery herb hops. The malt stands out like a good pale ale and has a light warming sense, although there us a nice floral fruity sense under the grain, maybe as much from the hops as the yeast. The head never does die out and the carbonation stays high for a while but gets low enough to take big gulps after a bit . There is a slightly oily hop kick in the finish but the carbonation cuts through and the semi sweet grain comes out in the long run with just a bit of bitterness. Very enjoyable and probably the best American Belgian pale I?ve had. Only set back is the fact it?s hard to get a sip through all the fizz at first. Hoppy, some Brett funk and maybe some wheat grain spice? all just one part of this great brew.

Serving: 12 oz. bottle from Wegmans Leesburg. It pours a nice copper color with a huge, rocky white head. Definitely a little over carbonated. The nose is a mix of Belgian yeast, a little candy sugar, lots of grass and a bit of tropical fruit. The mouthfeel is a little flabby. There are some grass notes on the front and back, a little yeast, and a little sweetness. That sweetness is quickly washed away by the overcarbonation leading to a club soda-esque finish. Not terrible flavor wise, just not very impressive.

11.2oz bottle - pours hazy orange with volcanic white head. Nose is yeast and orange! Flavor adds pine, citrus and spices (black pepper?). Hoppy and yeasty. Reminds me of Le Merle. dry finish and burpy. The Unibroue of West!

Bottle at home. Pours a clear amber with a big off-white head and substantial lacings. Smells of lemon peal and brett. Very dry with an underlying sweetness. Lots of brettanomyces aromas with citric notes and hints of caramel towards the end. Medium to full bodied. High carbonation. Very dry finish.

Bready, hoppy aroma. Light amber color. Bright taste, bordering on lemony, finishing in slightly funky Belgian yeast. Kind of refreshing. Not my favorite but interesting.

Bottle to tulip glass poured a dark apricot with a magnificent fluffy white head and impessive lacing. Aroma is primarily brett, but hints of citrus and grass develop. First sip introduces floral notes, slight guava flavor, leading to some bitter hops and ending with palatable sourness. Carbonation and sour linger in the mouth. Truly enjoyable brett/floral ale.
