12 oz bottle. Pours clear ruby copper red with a huge creamy off white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is spicy rye, sweet nutty caramel malts, and resiny piney hops. Fades as it sits in the glass.

The flavor is spicy rye and sweet caramel malt with a big resiny, slightly charred hop bitterness. Some plastic notes come out as it sits. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation.

Overall, a nice hoppy double red with some rye. Better a little cold, fades as it sits.

651 ml bottle. Pours a medium, well retained, light beige head, with some lacing, over a clear dark amber (SRM 18) body.....nose is rye, light pine, resin, hints of floral hops, minimal esters, balanced....taste is slightly sweet malts with toffee/caramel hints, light herbal hops with heavy pine, resin finishing bitter.....mouth feel, medium body, sticky, alcohol warmth present, mild acid, soft finish. This is a quite enjoyable beer with moderate complexity in both aroma and flavors. It is sweet, which is true to the style, and the hops were dealt with a light hand so that it does not have the uber bitterness of so many. BJCP 8/3/15/5/7

Appearance: dark, clear amber with a thick, creamy light tan head and decent lacing. Aroma: powerfully aromatic, with pine, lots of citrus, a good dose of grainy, rustic breadish malts . Taste: citrus and pine up front, with a firm, toasty, lightly sweet and spicy malt backbone. Finish: dry but a little juicy, alcohol really well hidden, lingering rye heat. Notes: I love a rye IPA, and this one was well done. NoVA Brewfest 2014, where apparently I sampled many of the same beers as this Radagast83 fellow.

4oz pour at the Northern Virginia BrewFest. Poured a pretty clear amber color with a medium sized slightly off-white head. Aroma was some bready grain, touch of rye spice, nice juicy pine character. Flavor was balanced malt, some pine, mild citrus. Alcohol is there, but relatively well masked for 9%. Nice finish.

Dark red hued with tempting spicy, hoppy nose. The mouth is big bold with tons of malt and lots of hop, but the rye really shines. The mouth just has a perfect balance in hop and crystal malt with right amount of rye. Really nice character that will pleasure Rye IPA lovers like myself. Moderately bitter finish with spicy rye undertones. Excellent.

Bottle... Poured dark reddish with a thick, off-white head. Aroma of resinous hops with a hint of rye. Bitter, resinous, earthy hops with big rye flavors, vegetal notes. Strong rye bread presence with a little bit of alcohol burn which lead to malt sweetness. Hops brought in citrus and pine characters too.

Poured from a 22 ounce bomber. The hop character is grassy, woody, pine, citrusy. The malts are bready, slightly spicy. The harsh, vegetal hop character is distracting.

Bottle. Pours a reddish copper with a big sudsy head. The beer has aromas of resin and caramel, but it is not the most robust of noses. Flavor is nice. Sugary sweetness with a decent bitter hops presence, but it doesn’t have a ton of character to the hops presence. I’m struggling to pick out specific flavors, but it does balance well.

Growler from Casanova. Pours a perfect clear, dark amber brown with giant beige head and amazing lacing. This is the perfect appearance for an Imperial Rye IPA. Aroma is strong with rye, slight dankness, slight medium roasted malts, and a little bit of pine and citrus hops in the background. This is not your typical crisp, hoppy, citrusy DIPA. Taste is thick and rich with rye, making this more like an American Strong Ale than a DIPA. Some earthy caramel and alcohol come in the middle, with the aftertaste carrying through some of the roasted malts and bittersweet caramel. Like a 50/50 IPA/Barleywine mix. Head is fine-grained lending to a nice creamy palate that dries out quite a bit in the end. Stays just barely sweet enough to be drinkable, with the dryness making you want another sip. Interesting and different, but for me this is way too spicy and dark for the style. Taste is OK, but truthfully is the worst aspect.
