>> Clear red amber pour, yellow foam. Solid lacing. Nose is maple, sticky dark orange, brown sugar, boysenberry. Spicy dark orange flavor, maple, brown sugar, spicy resinous hops. Solid imperial Red IPA of sorts or ASA. Not my style, but well done.

Often do not understand how others taste beers as per the current reviews. Bought this from WF in Fremont, CA. Pours very dark, mahogany with a very thick, dense head. Tremendous caramel malt taste front and foremost. Enough hop bitterness on the follow through, but odd, bready exit. Alcohol well hidden. Not sure I like this; not sure what the brewery knows what this is.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Cloudy, ruddy-brown pour with a 2 finger, creamy tan head that has great retention and leaves really great lacing, just a great, though heavy, looking beer. Aroma is loaded with citrus, pine and green tea-like hops, nice spicy rye and spicy hops - Amarillo and rye make a great combo. Flavor is loaded with black and green tea throughout, it’s really odd (to me) that this beer seems to contain neither, lots of spicy and earthy rye (probably responsible for the tea-like notes as well), toast, biscuit, light roasted seedy and nutty notes green beans, a hint of passion fruit and blackberry. Medium to heavy body, creamy, but chewy entry, medium, sharp and blanketing carbonation and a dry finish with a noticeable, but not overpowering hop acid bite. Really freaking delicious, I suppose it could use some extra dry hopping to make it really stand out, but overall it’s a fantastic IIPA and a fantastic showcase for rye malt implementation.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a dark copper with a decent head. Aromas of earthy hops and spice. Loads of rye spiciness and dry hoppiness in the taste. Definitely a beer worthy of the name, Hawk(R.I.P.) and Animal would totally slam some of these, through a table of course.

12 oz. bottle from Total Wine, Chesapeake, VA. Brownish-orange pour with a frothy off-white head. Aroma of grapefruit rind and pine needles mostly with sweet rye in the background. Taste is incredible with noticeable spicy rye malts blended with bitter citrus and piney hops. This is on the edge of tasting almost like a barleywine and it is awesome. Well done!

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber purchased at Holiday Wine Cellar ($8.99). Pours quite dark for an IPA with a brown-red hue and three fingers of fluffy tan head with good retention and nice lacing. AROMA of caramel malts, spicy rye bread, citrus, pine, tea and resinous hops. FLAVOR of big spicy rye, tart grapefruit, smooth caramel-y malts, pine, honey-sweetened iced (black) tea, and hints of tropical fruit. Quite malty overall, but does finish with some lingering hop bitterness. High ABV quite well hidden here. Fairly well balanced with the rye coming in big (which I always appreciate in a RyePA). I don’t think this is super fresh, but it still comes across as a great (though malty) rye DIPA. Would like to see this one return as a year-round or regular seasonal release. (362, 926)
