COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Silva Stout took a lot of patience. We aged our Double Stout in oak bourbon barrels for seventeen months. Flavors are very complex. It starts off with dark chocolate truffles rolled in cocoa powder. Next is the vanilla and wood notes, with rich cherry-like fruitiness. After racking and filtering the ale, we blended in just the right amount of freshly brewed Double Stout to provide the perfect balance of bourbon barrel aging and freshness. Enjoy the culmination of years of flavor development now – no further aging required!

Super-heavy overall in the hourbon department, but I don’t mind that so much! Aroma = Bourbon. Taste is chocolate cake soaked in bourbon with vanilla, toasted coconut and wood tones. Black in color of course with tan head. Could the boubon be dialed back a little to taste more of the underlying beer? Yes, but I still love it just how it is. Notes: Bottle from my friend Joe who was visiting San Diego and picked it up at the brewery upon release. Also sampled some with Shaun Hill, who happened to have a bottle arrive in the mail when we were visiting the brewery.

(bottle - 12 oz) Dark black pour with a creamy tan head. Aroma is big and roasty with lots of chocolate and some light fruit notes mixed in. The bourbon aging adds a nice vanilla and oak sweetness to the mix. Flavor is amazingly smooth. Tons of chocolate and roasted malts with a sweet bourbon flavor at the end, leading to a sweet and smooth finish.

Black pour, tan head that disappears. Nose is raisins, figs, vanilla, barrel, cocoa. Taste is bitter chocolate, bourbon barrel, vanilla, wood, raisins, a touch of prunes, egg cream. Dry oaky finish. Medium body, almost bordering on thin, which detracts from the otherwise syrupy mouthfeel.

Bottle at VT share. Pours pitch black with medium mocha head. Thick soapy lace. Smooth notes of dark cocoa, creamy malt, vanilla, coffee, hops, and barrel. Carbonation was medium. Body/mouth was a little full. Balanced stout.

Black pour, minimal head. Can smell the bourbon in this easily. But there is something underlying i havent had in a good bourbon stout, kind of an astringent sour funk to it. Lasts long on the aftertaste. Kinda turned me off on this one. Otherwise has all the big bba stout notes. But doesnt compare to the big boys like bcbs and blacknote.

Bottle from trader, pitch black pour with a great tan colored head. Outstanding aroma of barrel, lots of dark fruit, almost some grape, nice booze backing. Taste is some barrel, bit of chocolate and some dark fruit, killer woody finish, wish the body was a bit thicker. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

During RBWG 2013. Shared by me from a trade and I’m blanking on who I got it from... sorry! Rich black pour with a small tan head. Really nice BA going on here - rich fudge, coconut, vanilla, wood, whiskey, and everything I like - on top of an already stellar stout. Rich BA flavor as well with that great stout underneath adding plenty of chocolate, char, and coffee. I really liked this stuff and when I met Chuck at the CBC in DC, I told him and he said they’re making way more next time around! SCORE!
