Blanched gold. Two fingers of persistent lathery white foam adorns the glass with copious lace. Lilac, lemongrass, aniseed, and honeysuckle rise from the vibrant hop bouquet along with divine notes of white pepper, airy phenolics, dusty yeast, and fresh-cut pear. Dainty whispers of Dupontlike sulfur and Juicy Fruit gum couple with remarkably fresh maltiness which evokes baguette, crackers, and new-mown hay. Feathery, mousselike carbonation. Bottle-conditioned. Initial sip showcases an eruption of elegant hop vivacity, with an assortment of peppery, herbal hops arriving in waves. Malt soon follows suit with a squeaky clean lushness that not only caresses the palate but also snaps with a baguette and white cracker crispness. Succulent peach and tropical fruits impart their fair share of softness along the way. Hops continually exert their sassy charm, bringing more refinement and graceful complexities by way of lemongrass and flowers. Banana cream pie character indistinctly exudes, though the mere dab of banana is pleasingly restrained, dovetailing with a more-pronounced piecrustlike malt edge. Flavorsome hop-derived nectars hug the tongue, perfectly augmenting the impeccably clean body; not at all hollow or stark despite the very high attenuation. The cleanness is enhanced by a mineralic twinge which provides anchor for the firm malt to latch onto, enabling it to flourish with tantalizing luster. Peppery hop zing heightens at the dry finish which is capped with a scratchy lemon-verbena bitterness and starchy pils malt textures. This is saison mastery, plain and simple, and, uncannily, is a spitting image of Saison Dupont. It features everything I want in the style, and is something you could mindlessly quaff by the liter, or endlessly contemplate the many idiosyncracies found within. According to the bottle, this is spiced. As a stickler for purity in saison, I’d normally complain. But this is an exception I can make due to how tastefully the adjuncts have been utilized. Thank you, Green Flash!

Draft at Jerry’s. Pale gold with big, foamy, white head / Delicate, stylish nose of banana, lemon, coriander / Light body, somewhat resinous, a tad thin but otherwise fine balance and dry finish / Flavors of lemon, banana, ginger, soap, resin, and coriander / A lovely, light, indeed summer saison, approaching a wit in character.

The bottle is named Saison Diego, but assume that it’s this one. Typical light hazy. Smells like naan bread and and funny spices. The taste is quite complex with flowers, sweet pear, farm, bread, fields and grains.

Bomber bought @ Ølbutikken. Bottle labeled Saison Diego. Pours tiny hazy deep golden with a big frothy white head that slowly dissipates while leaving some trace and lacing on the glass. Smell is sweet and yeasty with bread dough, hay, lemon zest, green grapes, plums, ginger, white pepper, coriander seeds and hints of biscuits and dried herbs and flowers. Taste is sweet and yeasty with crackers, ginger, white pepper, dried herbs like lemon balm, basil and oregano, dough, orange zest, hay and hints of dry soil and yeasty ester. Mouthfeel is tiny crisp, tiny watery, tiny dry, very tiny sticky sweet and light to medium bodied. Finish is tiny sweet, slightly bitter and floral with biscuits, dried herbs and flowers, orange peal, white pepper and hay. Refreshing but would have preferred it drier.

66 cl bottle, as Saison Diego. Pours clear yellow with a nice white head. Aroma has sweet yeast notes, melon and citrus, honey, pepper corns, tangerine, spicy and earthy. Taste dry and earthy. Yeast notes, lots of honey and melon, citrus zest and tangerine notes, a bit of doughy yeast quality. The body is light, dry ending, making you beg for the next sip. A real thirst quencher - sessionable and very enjoyable.

Meh. I had this on tap at Amsterdam Cafe. I wanted something San Diego, but in my kind of style. It was light and refreshing, but a bit too spritzy without enough body to back it up. You know, kinda like a cocktail that’s club soda based, but light on the liquor and spices. What killed it for me, I guess, was the palate more so than the flavor, but the flavor as well.

A light golden orange brew with a fluffy thin white head. Goes away quick but carbonation is OK. Aroma is light and citrusy with some bread. Flavor is on the lighter side, some honey notes. Not very yeasty at all. No sediment in glass. Drinkable, but not the most interesting saison i’ve ever had.

Bomber. Yeast sediment on the bottom of the bottle released after being rolled. That made for a hazy golden beer. A big white fluffy head had good retention. This has yeast, zest, spice, funk, pepper, malts with just a bit of butter and everything works together nicely. The bonus is that so much interesting flavor comes in with a delightfully low ABV.
