Aroma is lightly spicy with some notable noble floral hops. Lightly clovey and peppery with a kiss of light apricot. The yeast is nicely restrained which is good to see. Fairly rich lean malts, a bit of yeasty breadiness as well. I can’t say that it’s great but it is appropriately dry with a nice herbal hoppiness and a hint of banana and apricot as well as loads of bubblegum. As it warms a bit of mintiness picks up. It’s a pretty decent take on the style. timfoolery (484), California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 12, 2008 Bottle from Nugget in Davis. This beer really had the spirit of a Belgian brew, despite being from California. I’m continually impressed with Green Flash, and this is no exception. They took excellent care to limit the aftertaste on this brew, while preserving the malty, dark fruit taste of a classic Tripel. sheatripper (863), Brooklyn, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 9, 2008 Updated: Mar 10, 2008Bomber into a Duvel glass. Cloudy amber/orange with an unfortunate quickly collapsing head. Aromas of banana, pear and melon above cookie-like malts--floral and bubblegum notes as well. Flavor was basically sweet bubblegum. Some caramelized sugar and tame citrus hops underneath, but the flavor was overall kind of dull, sweet and flabby. I couldn’t really pick up any spiciness or complexity I’d expect from a tripel. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 8, 2008 A pretty golden, hazy pour with a creamy white head that disappeared quickly. Aroma is sweet and citrusy, with a hint of yeast and something else... I like the creamy texture, tastes of orange and citrus spritz with a yeast overtone. Yeast could also be a doughy taste. No hops in sight, enjoyable beer though. Vas19 (299), Maryland, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 8, 2008 Pours a nice orange-golden color with a thin white head. Smell is citrus and yeast. Nice creamy texture. Fruit and yeast taste. No hops. Smooth texture. GJF (498), Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 26, 2008 I was a little disappointed with this. After really loving the Green Flash IPA, I had great expectations. It poured a cloudy gold and had a nice yeasty aroma, but the flavors seemed rather unbalanced and harsh to me. Seemed like it didn’t quite know what it wanted to be (or as my friend CBD says, it’s trying too hard). OldMrCrow (1187), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 25, 2008 Bottle at about 6 months of age.
Pours a hazy light gold with a large and robust head. Sweet doughy aroma, some fruit esters, just a hint of spice on the nose. Flavors are sweet, somewhat muddled: rising dough slathered with fake maple syrup, a bit of peach and banana, mild spices, really no hop bite on the close, very sweet throughout.
Not exactly objectionable but not a favorite and certainly not impressive as a tripel. jgb9348 (2495), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Feb 11, 2008 Nice strong golden coloured body with a very thin slightly-off white head. Aroma of fresh yeast, malt, coriander seed and a tiny bit of honey. Full-bodied; Very strong yeastie flavour with malt and a good dose of sugars behind. Aftertaste shows plenty of malt, yeast and curacao - a bit of honey and some light nuts also show through. Overall, a decent but slightly strong and overwhelming trip. Good to try, but I’d recommend another trip over this one. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in San Franisco (4th Ave), California on 9-February-2008.
