COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s Note: If you had the 8.1% abv version marketed since 2014 as a Double India Pale Ale, this is the wrong beer page. Please rate under Green Flash West Coast IPA (2014 -).

This West Coast-Style India Pale Ale is extravagantly hopped, full flavored, medium bodied and copper colored. A menagerie of hops is combined throughout the brewing process to impart specific characteristics. Hops used include Simcoe for a unique fruitiness and grapefruit zest, Columbus for strong hop pungency, Centennial for pine and citrus notes, and Cascade for floral aroma.

Pungent hop aroma. this poured nice and gave off a smell I didn’t have to lean in to pick up. Amber with a HUGE fluffy head, almost two fingers, that stayed around. Very hoppy initial taste that goes though some sweet grapefruit and rind flavors and finishes back on the hop flavor, but oddly this is not overly bitter. I am shocked this isn’t even higher than the current and respectable overall of 82. I’d think the hopheads would have this at 90+, but I guess the lack of any real bitterness hurts it. Pretty nicely done.

The beer abandons the stubby 12-ounce brown bottle a cloudless deep amber with a behemothic frothy light tan head that slowly fades away leaving a fine coating of lace to encircle the glass. Nose has a nice hop floral spiciness, undergirded by the sweet malt, quite crisp and fresh to the senses, start is sweet with a nice but light grain profile, top a bit light for my liking. Finish is adequately acidic, the hops persistent in their spiciness, dry aftertaste, a nice drinkable IPA, that doesn’t murder the taste buds and fits in nicely on this 112 degree day in sunny Arizona.

Coppe color with nice white fluffy head. Aroma is resiny bitter hops. Flavor is rough astringent resny hops. Not the kind of IPA I look for. No balance.

Thanks to Dark Elf for this one.Nose is very complex for an IPA.Initial whiff reminds of back in the days at Waikiki buying fresh Kona Bud.Then a get some grapefruit and a little sweetness.Maybe even a touch of Evergreen Tree.Tastes dang good.It is an interesting brew that incorporates lots of little nuiances such as the presence of pine or evergreen.A dash thing on the palate.

Bottle poured a nice red amber with a large, thick, fizzy white head and sticky lacing. Heavy hops, grapefruit and other citrus aroma. Flavor is bitter with hops and citrus with a heavy citrus bite on the palate . 7% alcohol is undetectable. This is a good, solid IPA. GOOD STUFF!

UPDATED: DEC 26, 2010 Large tan head, excellent retention and a coating lace. Clear, coppe/orange hued brew. Plenty of pine and citrus in the nose, yup theres malt in there also. Medium body, lightly resiny. Solid malt notes under a tremendous hop barrage of pine, citrus, melons and fruit. Juicey and spicey. Long sticky finish, nice bite. A very nice West Coast IPA! Thanks go out to the DarkElf and SDbruboy! I received a bottle from each of these gentleman traders! Rerate, 12/26/10 6 packs shrunk to 4 packs. Price increased. I love this beer more now than ever, shame i cant afford it more often. Best friggin hop nose ever. Lovely hop flavors. Most excellent bitterness. resiny, juicey, tropical, fruity, faintly malty(thanks you very much!) This beer is even more amazing now than ever. Yer killin me though. STOP!

Nice change from all the Stone IPA I’ve been drinking. This is grapefruit all the way. Very nice lightly hazy reddish-copper body with good size white head on top. Clean, crisp citrus nose. Flavor is grapefruit and orange with a sharp grapefruit peel finish. Medium body. Very nice IPA. I’ll be buying more of it.

green flash, what a great name. feel like the green lantern should jump out of the glass/bottle with a huge hop on his finger. i digress, this had a nice fruit spice nose. once it drops on your tongue you feel a rush of resiny piney hops swirling around your brain like an express train. a solid brew and a classic contender if i dont say so myself.

UPDATED: MAR 21, 2007 Bottle. Pours a light amber color. Aroma is very hoppy. Strong and bitter smelling. A touch of sweetness mixed in as well. The flavor is very bitter, the bitterness is dominated by a grapefruit sort of flavor. I think I might be able to taste a little maltiness through the hops. No alcohol notes. Pretty solid.
