(This is the new recipe for West Coast IPA, now an Imperial IPA) As craft beer pioneers, we embarked on an expedition to brew the benchmark West Coast IPA. We ventured into the unknown and struck gold, discovering a tantalizing menagerie of hops. Simcoe for tropical and grapefruit zest, Columbus for hop pungency, Centennial for pine notes, Citra for citrus zest, and Cascade for floral aroma are layered throughout the brewing process. West Coast IPA exemplifies the Green Flash spirit of adventure and discovery.

From bottle. Dark copper with a finger of off white head. Grapefruit, grass and biscuit in the nose. Lots of carbonation. Seems maltier than the previous version. Bitter throughout. I like the promotion to Imperial, but at this point still prefer the old version.

Strong citrus aroma, golden bodied, full wall of bitterness greets your palate with grapefruit, pine and sweet malt flavors. What I expect in the much hyped ’West Coast’ style IPA. Bring it all or go home.

Bomber from Bottle Barn in Santa Rosa, CA. Pours orange gold with a creamy near-white head. Lots of hop. Mostly citrus, but maybe a bit of pine, maybe a touch of earth. Full bodied or nearly. Flavor: It’s primarily a citrus hop bomb, just enough caramel to hold it, not more, and as the citrus moderates it gets a bit earthy. It finishes smoothly bitter. Mild hop burn sets in after a few quaffs. Quite nicely done.

Bottle from Beer Gonzo, Coventry. The Belgian brewed version so in a 33cl bottle. Looks pretty in the glass - nice warm hazy orange. Aroma is tropical fruits and sank notes. Taste is citrus, grapefruit, fair bit of a bitterness for the style. It’s tasty, it’s refreshing and a good American hop bomb but I’ve had better examples of this style. It’s still excellent, though.

Good beer, easy to drink. It tastes bitter, a little bit burned, but with some fresh flavors as well. Not very special, almost boring.

Very good. Nice and smooth for an imperial. One of the better green flash. Would drink again.

Bottle. Clear amber color with ivory head. Nice floral, spicy, citrusy hop aromas. Medium body with average co2. Nice, medium bitter flavors of  floral, pine, spicy hops with a dusty pale malt base brew. Mild alcohol taste to finish---very tasty.
