As craft beer pioneers, we embarked on an expedition to brew the benchmark West Coast IPA. We ventured into the unknown and struck gold, discovering a tantalizing menagerie of hops. Simcoe for tropical and grapefruit zest, Columbus for hop pungency, Centennial for pine notes, Citra for citrus zest, and Cascade for floral aroma are layered throughout the brewing process. West Coast IPA exemplifies the Green Flash spirit of adventure and discovery.

Pours murky golden with a thin tan head with good legs. Nose is caramel, floral hops, a little citrus hops. Flavor is malt forward with a very bitter finish and a bitter aftertaste. There is a little metallic flavor in there for me. Mouthfeel is creamy and a little oily.

Tangerine/orange citrus, leafy hop aroma. Really light sweet malt. Herbal/leafy, citrus, pepper hop flavor. Some resinous flavor and mouthfeel. Light malt flavor -- just enough...

floral, grass, dark amber color, clear, minimal head, initial light sweetness, transforms into a long lasting medium sour finish, typical IPA grapefruit flavor isnt all encompassing overpowering other flavors, light body, thin feel, average carbonation, bitter, long finish, as of grading albeit early on Ryans favorite IPA.

On draft in NC. Pours amber with a white head. Grapefruit, pine, more malty than it was before. This used to be one of my favorite IPAs. I'm not loving this new recipe. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

9/12/14 on tap in shaker pint at Fox Sports Grill, San Diego, CA. Aroma is HOPS and sweet citrus. Golden copper in color. Very little head. As expected with an IPA, it is a hop bomb. For a hop lover this beer is bliss. For a malt lover, this is just another hoppy example where the flavor of hops overpower the skill of the brewer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; hazy light copper poor with a frothy beige head, big tropical hop aroma consisting of pine, tangerine and a touch of caramel, taste has bitter grapefruit, resinous pine, tangerine, backed up with some sweet caramel, excellent west coast DIPA.

Very hoppy double IPA. Big flavours, lots of different hops contributing. This is very nice. bottle in Berkeley.

Draft at Moriartys. Tulip. Slightly hazy orange amber pour with a white foamy top that left rows of sugary lace. Strong floral resins. Lavender pinecones. Violet varnish. Heather. Wildflowers. Numbing dark amber fruit. Pineapple cores. Mango skins. Unripe oranges. Red plums. Kumquats. Some nice earthiness as well. Autumn leaves. Truffles. Portobello mushrooms. Pleasantly unashamed to have strong, sharp hops front and center.

Green Flash West Coast IPA has a medium, off-white head, a mostly clear, orange appearance, some bubble streams, and a bit of lacing left behind. The aroma is of overriding hop resin. This is the predominant smell, but one might detect some underlying sweet, white bread. Taste is of hop oil, a bit of bitter fruit, pine, and a touch of sweet malt. Mouthfeel is medium and not too slick, and Green Flash West Coast IPA finishes semi-dry and not boozy (except you feel it, rather than taste it). RJT

On tap @ Beer temple. 25cl sample. The aroma is somewhat weak, has citrus, bit grain, light vegetable. Bit hazy, golden coloured beer wit a lasting, white head. The taste is moderate bitter, has citric hoppiness, light honey maltiness. Almost clean taste, bitter dry finish. Taste is pretty good, but aroma lacks hops.
