COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
(This is the new recipe for West Coast IPA, now an Imperial IPA) As craft beer pioneers, we embarked on an expedition to brew the benchmark West Coast IPA. We ventured into the unknown and struck gold, discovering a tantalizing menagerie of hops. Simcoe for tropical and grapefruit zest, Columbus for hop pungency, Centennial for pine notes, Citra for citrus zest, and Cascade for floral aroma are layered throughout the brewing process. West Coast IPA exemplifies the Green Flash spirit of adventure and discovery.

Pours a clear amber brew with a big white head with regular retention, aroma is moderate sweet and moderate to heavy bitter with pine, grapefruit, tropical fruits and caramel, medium bodied, flavor is moderate sweet and moderate to heavy bitter with a bitter finish. Very good IIPA

Pours a slightly cloudy orange with a fat finger of white head diminishing to a thin skim and moderate sticky lacing. Nose is pine and citrus hops against a caramel malt background. Taste is similar, with a blend of bitter hops and caramel malt. Smooth mouthfeel, medium body and an off-dry lingering bitter finish. Big hops dominated by pine, just the way I like it. There’s a lot of malt as well, though, that definitely cuts the impact of the hop bittering. Not entirely sure what’s missing here, but this doesn’t have the character one might expect from nearly 100 IBU. No bottle date, so perhaps it’s simply age. Decent, without being stellar.

Ours the typical DIPA, clear orange with a nice head. Loads of citrus on this one. Lemon Zest, grapefruit, pineapple, orange. Some earthy spice in there as well. It’s good.

12 oz. bottle from Root Cellar. Pours a pretty much clear amber-orange with a finger of rocky off-white head that settles quickly into a lasting film and ring and laces the glass. Aroma of leafy and floral and citrusy hops, pale and toasty malts, grapefruit peel, and some tropical fruit juice. Flavor of citrus zest, leaves, florals, caramel malts, herbs, pine resin, and tropical fruit rind. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and a really bitter mouthfeel that lingers after the finish. Good, but not my favorite spin on a West Coast IPA.

Green Flash West Coast IPA is a better than average example of the style. Nice hoppy aroma coming from a deep orange pour with a nice holding head. Taste is mostly pine with some sweetness balanced a nice malt profile, and not so much bitterness that it dominates the finish. West Coast is a good IPA but not enough to reach the highest levels of the category.

Aroma is citrus, pine and mild fruit/candy. The flavor is grapefruit, light tropical fruit, hop resin, malts and a long and bitter/almost puckering tart finish.
