(This is the new recipe for West Coast IPA, now an Imperial IPA) As craft beer pioneers, we embarked on an expedition to brew the benchmark West Coast IPA. We ventured into the unknown and struck gold, discovering a tantalizing menagerie of hops. Simcoe for tropical and grapefruit zest, Columbus for hop pungency, Centennial for pine notes, Citra for citrus zest, and Cascade for floral aroma are layered throughout the brewing process. West Coast IPA exemplifies the Green Flash spirit of adventure and discovery.

UPDATED: JUN 9, 2014 Aroma is citrus, floral and vaguely boozy. Flavor is bigger includes citrus, pine, resin, tea and pear. Malt back is barely there but fits just fine. All in all I prefer this to the original single and find it worthy of its roots.

Pour is deep clear golden with a beautiful and thick white head. Pine aromas are accompanied by fruity citrus and grapefruit notes. Some malty sweetness is there too. Heavy pine bitterness in the mouth. This is definitely for hopheads! The fruity notes hit your tongue first before the bitter punch takes over. Full body with some bready and sweet malt notes backing up the strong bitterness. Heavy but good West Coast IPA!

Draught @ The Rover. Pours very tiny hazy amber with a frothy goldenish offwhite head that slowly dissipates while leaving lots of lacing and trace on the glass. Smell is tiny malty and tiny fruity with bread, caramel, grapefruit juice, pine needles, moist grass, boiled vegetables, lemon zest and cardboard. Taste is bitter, tiny fruity, tiny malty and herbal with bread, caramel, grapefruit rinds, soil, pine needles, moist grass, lemon balm, orange peal, lemon peal and hints of alcohol. Mouthfeel is astringenjt and medium bodied. Finish is bitter with bread, caramel, grapefruit rinds, pine needles, moist grass, cardboard, orange peal and lemon peal. Ok, after the trip to Sweden I don’t expect this to be fresh but wow, this is really bad compared to the old version.

12 oz. bottle, pours a clear copper with a small white head. Nose brings out a wallop of delicious piney and resinous hops, with a touch of wood. Flavour is very much the same, with loads of piney and resinous hops, dry wood, and just enough malt backing to balance out those intimidating hops. Exceedingly hoppy and dry, more so than West Coast IPA version 1, with a bit of unpleasant spiciness. Not sure why they needed to regig the recipe, but this is still good, though I prefer the original.

Une autre IPA brassée par la Brasserie St. Feuillien pour Green Flash et le marché américain. Orange profonde avec une fine tête crème. Saveurs de houblon prononcées bien sur, agrumes pour l'essentiel. Corps moyen... Réussie ! --- Another IPA brewed by Brasserie St. Feuillien for Green Flash and the United States Market. Deep orange with a thin cream head. Pronounced hop flavor of course, mostly citrus. Medium body ... Successful!

Bottle. The look is clear, a beige colored head, and copper in color. The smell is really fruity, hops, caramel, pine, pineapple, and melon. The taste is bitter, fruits, dry, biting, and good.

[Bottle (12oz)] Pours a deep auburn with a large lasting frothy off-white head. Some lacing on the glass. Nice fruity and resiny hoppy aroma. Fruity, hoppy flavour with a nice long bitter finish. Alcohol is well hidden. Medium bodied. I’ve not much to write about it but it’s very good.

Solo bomber pour....rich amber color; minimal head and lacing. Nose is sweet blend of pine / grapefruit / a bit of caramel....nice. Taste is a blend of sweet and bitter....with the hoppy nose over it all. Medium feel in the mouth...bitter at end. All in all...very nice IIPA...

Tap@Kings Arms, London (RBESG) - amber coloured pour with white head. Fruity aroma and taste with prominent grapefruit and pine needles, biscuity caramel malts, medium sweet, bitter finish. Decent.
