COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
(This is the new recipe for West Coast IPA, now an Imperial IPA)

If you are drinking this one in Europe, chances are you should be rating under this entry:

As craft beer pioneers, we embarked on an expedition to brew the benchmark West Coast IPA. We ventured into the unknown and struck gold, discovering a tantalizing menagerie of hops. Simcoe for tropical and grapefruit zest, Columbus for hop pungency, Centennial for pine notes, Citra for citrus zest, and Cascade for floral aroma are layered throughout the brewing process. West Coast IPA exemplifies the Green Flash spirit of adventure and discovery.

UPDATED: JUN 9, 2014 Aroma is citrus, floral and vaguely boozy. Flavor is bigger includes citrus, pine, resin, tea and pear. Malt back is barely there but fits just fine. All in all I prefer this to the original single and find it worthy of its roots.

The scent is fruity. The taste is fruity but incredibly bitter. Heavier bitterness in the aftertaste that fills the mouth for a long while. For bitter for me to like it. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.

from a 33cl bottle. pours a dark hazy amber with a small beige head that quickly disappeared. the aroma is powerful, with hops and herbs. Flavors of strong hops, spruce, herbs, resin, roasty, bread. Strong hops bitterness, and over the top spruce taste. Unbalanced at the start, over hopped, not pleasant. The finish was better, with some hints of honey and yeast. Interesting beer, but would not drink two.

Aroma is a little musty. Medium bodied, good head and carbonation. Golden pale color. Nice hop flavours.

Bottle poured into a pint glass. The aroma is grainy, herbal, and strong on the lemon peel. I get some mushroom in there as well. That’s odd. Taste is all bitter and dry floral notes. Finishes pretty dry. Medium to high carbonation. Bigger body. Not bad, but a step backward from what I remember this beer being like.

I use to really like the original recipe for this one. This one is still good, but it has such a harsh bitterness that some of the hop essence gets lost. The aroma is like sniffing a pile of hop pellets. You’ve got all the players: grassy, earth, faint resin, and some citrus. The flavor is a deceptively thick malt underbelly but clearly a vehicle for massive amounts of hops. The hop flavor is very nice, but like I stated earlier it is slightly overshadowed by the intensely bitter finish. I just wish it was just slightly less bitter...still, it’s impressive.

[2/19/15] Draught at Green Flash in San Diego. Clear amber. Hoppy aroma, piney, grapefruity, resinous. Flavor has some sweetish malt, piney and slightly grapefruity hops, and a bitter finish. Medium-bodied.

Bottle at home. Orange amber a bit haze, off white head. Bitter, resins, hop flavors up front softened by a bready maltiness. Lingering bright fruits - orange, peach and apricot - as the breads recede. Medium body, medium carbonation, with a bitter finish.
